True Success Is What You Create By Filling The Gaps of Others

Thanksgiving is a long holiday weekend that will run from Thursday through Sunday. Think about that for a moment. Many folks are traveling, and those who are not will either be entertaining family or they will take advantage of that long weekend and begin Christmas shopping. All of that makes sense, but it also leaves gaps in the real estate business.

For those who are concerned about future business, you’ve been blessed. People who are searching for a home will continue to search after Thanksgiving Day. They’ll be visiting Open House events that are scheduled for the weekend.

Are you still thinking?  Have you thought about doing those listing agents a favor and hosting an open house for them? Oh wait, that’s doing yourself a favor, and what better way to pick up new business that listing agents would normally get but they have an acceptable excuse for not working!

Contact those listing agents and attempt to secure several open house events during Saturday and Sunday. This is a race to the finish line, and the majority of agents have cleared a path for you.

Fill those weekend hours with as many open house events as daylight will allow.  Begin at 11:00am; leave 20 minutes in between open house events to travel to the next one; and continue with as many as you can fit from 11:00am to 4:30pm with each running for 1.5 hours. Maybe you can make a score!

This is just a thought for the moment.....

Barbara,

Exactly what one could do.  In commercial real estate agents would disappear the week before Christmas and come back in the second week of January.  We would be there to fill that giant gap.  When they were back, we were on the slopes skiing as this was defintely a dead time...However, our team was there just in case!  A

Barbara Todaro -  Thanksgiving is perfect.  Three years ago we went to my sister's in Florida.  I had called Gabe Sanders several weeks before to show us houses.  We signed a contract the day before Thanksgiving.

I like those thoughts on filling the gaps of others, Barbara.  So often, when a new technology, or bright shiny thing shows up in our midst, folks all flock to it, when actually the thing that would be best is to look for opportunities left behind, that will need attention!

Myrl Jeffcoat those bright shiny object are much more convenient and they can be used without much effort and preparation....Open house events require some preparation....marketing, for one....

Hi Barbara,
When everyone else is zigging it can be wise to zag. That's where the gap is.

Carol Williams exactly.... and Happy Thanksgiving to you...

George Souto I know the number..... my two will be doing that....

Michael Jacobs and in order to accomplish that, one needs to keep his/her head in the business all the time.... difficult for some....natural for others.... no one knows what you're thinking, so I got away with it all the time..... it didn't matter where we were, I was thinking future business and I grabbed my share.

Well... I believe some people began the holiday a full week ago. I have a couple of clients who have vanished. I'm in the middle of their work and have emailed some questions, but... Crickets.

I guess I'll just guess at the answers and keep on...

I'm very grateful that I'm not stuck in some airport tonight... I'll bet you are too!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Real Estate in the 21st Century!

Wonderful advice Barbara Todaro! I was just recently having a conversation with some fellow brokers about how so many agents/brokers sort of shut down their businesses between Halloween and New Year's Day. It is an absolute myth (at least here in AZ) that the real estate market "shuts down" during the holidays. Quite the contrary, as we have several closings scheduled for next month (December). Additionally, if you choose to throttle back during the holidays, your pipeline could be a bit empty when heading into the new year, so you spend the peak months trying to fill it versus hitting the ground running. I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving!

Thanks for the great reminder.  I can definitely see how Thanksgiving is stretched out over the weekend and I am not complaining.  Daughter flew here from Arizona and leaving tonight. It was nice to have a few quiet days.  Hope your Thanksgiving was great. I always appreciate your messages! Barbara Todaro

I actually had 11 showings on a small $240K listing I have last week..and I thought it would be a slow week!  Just goes to show, people are always out there looking...and now, back to open houses, weather permitting!
