5 Plus Inches of Snow in Soldiers Pass West Sedona

1st Snow Ever In November! Sedona Arizona - 5 inches from Rick & Sheri Sperry on Vimeo.

Weather Gurus...

Another first for Sedona! The weather gurus told us that we were in for a pretty good winter-type storm.  Over 3 days, Sedona was to get 3.45 inches of rain and 4 to 8 inches of snow. They revised the snow down to between 2 and 4 inches.  Two to 4 inches is nothing.

Two Inches In One Hour!

Well, when Rick woke up and looked outside it was coming down hard. There was already 3 inches on the ground. The branches on our trees, especially the Japanese Maple were sagging badly.  He went outside measured the snow, took some pics and got to work hitting snow off of the trees. It took him an hour.  When he went back to measure for additional snow, it had increased by 2 inches in an hour.

Pristine Beauty of Red Rocks, White Powder, and Pine Trees

The snow stopped at about 10:30 am and the sun came out for a while. You can see how much of the snow melted at that time. I should mention that the temp never got below freezing so once it stopped it started evaporating.

Polite Snow

This is why I continue to say we have "polite snow". It doesn't overstay it's welcome!

Hi Michael Jacobs - I can certainly understand how you feel.  It wasn't until a couple of years ago that I got any experience driving in snow.  By the time I got outside, the roads were clear!

Hi Nina Hollander, I am glad I can accommodate. I certainly would not want to be somewhere where the snow lasted all winter long. A day here and there is actually exciting to be part of.

Hi Brian England - When the kids were young, we would take them to the mountains in CA to sled down the hill.  They loved it.

Thank you Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI, MRP. Fortunately, nothing was going on but I do have clients today and the roads are all clear. Most of the snow is gone.

Sheri,

How lovely to see it, and our mountains have a new dusting of snow (nothing like yours), and it looks like more is one the way.  It just started raining again here.  A

Snow always adds dimension to red rock canyon walls.  I remember years ago, during a trip to the Grand Canyon in April.  It snowed and added dramatic views to an already dramatic scene.

Hi Ron and Alexandra Seigel -

My husband talked with an old work colleague who lives in Running Springs and he said they got 2 feet of snow overnight.

Hi Myrl Jeffcoat

It is so true. I also love the fact that it continues to blanket the 6000 ft vistas but evaporates quickly in Sedona proper!  Thank you for the feature!!

Hi Sheri Sperry - MCNE® How beautiful it is where you live!  I'll bet you didn't mind seeing snow for a change.  I wouldn't mind it here either in south Florida!   A welcome change, for sure.  And it was polite, as you say, being gone by lunchtime.

Hi Elyse Berman, PA

I love all four seasons but fall is my favorite.  I was shocked to see over 5 inches of snow. I still have almost all leaves on my Japanese Maple tree! Normally now they are gone.

Hi Grant Schneider - I hope your snow is polite snow also!  We have not had one day below freezing as a high temp all year and with the dry air, snow evaporates rather than melts. It is rare that there is ice on the road. The only issue I had was my 3-year-old grandson stomped on the snow last February and made ice footprints all over the place! Ha Ha - Fortunately, not where we walk.

Hi Sheri:

Those wintry photos are really stunning, even though I don't miss being around the snow. The Japanese Maple in the snow is truly magnificent...but no doubt the snow was not good for the branches! I wonder if this is all a precursor to what is to come?!
