I'm a dinosaur

By
Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

It's true.  I'm a dinosaur.

It's been pointed out to me several times in the last week, or so... and no, it's probably not a coincidence that I've spent the last week, or so, with my kids.

As this business marches into the future it's becoming more and more tech savvy.

I used to be on the bleeding edge of technology, and helped others find their way through the electronic minefield.  These days I just struggle to keep up.

I still have an AOL email address.  While I also have a gmail address, I see no reason to use it, since AOL is free, and has an unlimited amount of storage.  I have over 20 years of emails saved on my account.

Additionally, many of my client demographic also have AOL addresses.  In the past month, I updated my cellphone to one of the latest-greatest, and my kids helped me learn how to use it (granted, by pointing out how I was using it wrong, but hey... whaddya want?).

Technology marches on quickly, and if you don't keep up you'll find yourself trampled, and left behind.

I am still a dinosaur... but I'm still an agile toothy velociraptor (Well, maybe not that agile, but still all my own teeth.), as opposed to that pudgy bath toy that you see above.

grrrrrowl.

Just need a smart phone and all is on the device.  How do you manage your 20 year old account in terms of spam eMails received?

Just when you think you know what you're doing, your kids come home for the holidays and show you what you're doing wrong. I'm not to the point I want to be a dinosaur yet, but it's moving so fast.

I have been feeling like a dinosaur myself this past month.  My company went to cloud based outlook and my ability to mail merge to snail mail is not possible with the new system.  I'm sure our young Chief Technology Officer would wonder, "Why would you ever want to snail mail someone?"  And maybe he would be incredulous at the answer that my snail mailed market reports, with personalized letters through mail merge, are the #1 non-sphere business source I have.

It wasn't that long ago that I was averse to texting, but hey...it's what one of my buyers preferred so I adapted.  This was back when Verizon still popped you for .25 a text.

Good evening Alan May ,

Loved your post. Isn't it amazing how these kids who've grown up with technology have such a handle on it!!

Hi Alan- while I consider myself pretty tech savvy (my grandkids call me the techie grandma) it took me forever to figure out what to do with the "#" sign. I also had to Google  LMAO and G.O.A.T to see what they meant.

Hi Alan... fortunately, I've not felt like a dinosaur  much as yet. Never had an aol address (came late to this game but then started catching up like mad). And I've been known to teach the grands a thing or two!

"I used to be on the bleeding edge of technology."  I really should put my glasses on before reading blog posts.  At first I read that sentence as "the breeding edge of technology."  I sat here for a few moments wondering how that would work. . .Would robots and AI be involved?
