Speechless Sundays - Memories & New Traditions

We rescued Duke when he was approximately 4 years old; it's uncertain what breed he is but, we do know that he's mostly shih tzu. He came to us, not crazy about cats but, he ultimately became quite comfortable with our Charlotte. We joked that they were secret buddies - we would often find them in the bathroom, away from everyone, lounging on a rug together. She was like E.F. Hutton - when she meowed, both Barney & Duke listened!

Duke under the tree

Charlotte's favorite place to get some 'me' time during the holidays was under the warmth of the Christmas tree. The dogs have never even been curious about the tree - they just knew that was Charlotte's domain and they weren't impressed with the tree in the least.

Fast-forward to Thanksgiving 2019. We have a new cat that cares absolutely nothing about the Christmas tree but, evidently Charlotte's secret buddy, Duke, is still able to smell her on the tree skirt. He's found a new place to nap in the evening and now that he's 12 years old, we find it sweet that this is the first time since he's been with us that he's even been under the tree!

Happy Sunday!

To go along with the theme: First we get comfy and then we get to creating new traditions and the rest fall into place. :)

We couldn't believe he's sitting under the tree - exactly where she sat, hiding yet, where she could still supervise the room!

We hope he carries on that tradition - we love having a fur baby under the tree, Laura Cerrano!

What a sweet story, Debe. My cats nevers cared about Christmas trees, although Oliver would sit under my cat tree (and only under that tree). I see that Mr. Marlow doesn't give a hoo-ha either. Fortunately, our dogs never cared with and left them alone.

Hi Debe - I like this story and your post title provides the right hint of what might eventually be "revealed".  A new friendship, a partnership, new traditions....  Finding the ideal hiding spot away...  perhaps not on a bathroom rug but somewhere...

Hi Debe,  Tanks for the insight into the happy life of your pets.  As I keep telling my family, our dogs are people too.  Great photo.
