Mark Butler, 61, the co-founder and CEO of Ollie’s Bargain Outlets, died Sunday, the company announced Monday morning.

The company said he died unexpectedly while spending the Thanksgiving holiday with his family.

Butler was the youngest and last surviving member of the group of four businessmen who founded Ollie’s in Cumberland County in 1982 and in 2003 he was named CEO of the company whose motto is as straightforward as its business plan: “Good stuff cheap.”Since then, the company has become something of a retail anomaly – in an age when Internet competition is causing thousands of brick and mortar stores to close each year, Ollie’s has been on an expansion binge.

Despite having no online sales, Ollie’s sales doubled between 2015 and 2019, to more than $1 billion. It has opened dozens of stores each year and now boasts 325 stores in 25 states.
