My Most Unusual and Eye-Opening Consultation
This one has stayed in my memory for years. An agent called me to consult on a home she was going to list. She suggested that I come with her so we both could view it. The seller’s fiance would be meeting us there.
We turned on a road that was long and winding. There was a small cottage on the road but nothing else. I asked the agent what road we were on and she said...This is their driveway!
I looked up and there was a sprawling ranch house with a lake behind it. WOW!
When I walked in I thought this agent has her work cut out for her. Every cabinet and countertop in the kitchen was mauve laminate.
We walked through the rooms until we came upon the leg of a mannequin with fishnet hose on it outside a door. The leg was bent and was wearing a mauve high heel.
The agent and I gave each other a quick what the heck is this look and opened the door. Inside was the master bedroom done in...you guessed it mauve.
Above the huge bed was a mirror. We walked into Master Bath which was also mauve and there were mirrors everywhere...on the ceiling and walls.
The next room had a very large jacuzzi with stadium seating around it. I’m still not sure what that was about but my head was swirling...how do you stage this home to sell?
The property was close in and on a shared lake which was a huge plus. It was hard to “judge” the rest of the house because we were both distracted by all of the mauves.
We met the fiance who was a lovely young woman and answered a question running in my head...who has this kind of home???
It turns out the seller owned several gentlemen’s club in the city and his fiance was a star performer.
As we were leaving, she asked if in the sales contract the buyers would agree to allow the current tenant to remain there until her passing.
It turns out that the tenant was a num who was the seller’s teacher many years ago in the northeast. When she retired, he promised to take care of her and provide a home for her.
What happened to the house?
As it turned out, the seller and his fiance decided to postpone selling their home so thankfully we did not have to address all that mauve!
