Ask An Ambassador: I Got Nothing!!!

Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Elite 513.520.5305 SAL.2002007747

I've been contributing to the Ask An Ambassador series of posts for almost 7 years.  Every Tuesday I look for something I can blog about that will hopefully educate, shorten a learning curve, prevent someone from making a mistake, or just explaining how certain things work.

Chances are I've hit some topics more than a few times, and some Tuesdays (like today), there's just a trickle coming out of the idea pipeline, and that's an idea in itself.

What can you do to refire the blogging engine when you flame out?

There is ALWAYS something out there to blog about, it's just a matter of finding a topic AND the desire to explore that topic.

Some topics I refuse to cover.

Exploring them is just begging to get stung.

So I'm looking for something that comes from a positive slant.

Something that HELPS our business, either from providing the consumer detailed real estate information or gives them a glimpse of who we are (love dogs?  we got 'em!  Cats?  We're equal opportunity!).

So where can I find the spark for a topic?

Chances are what you need is right on the blog roll or in the Q&A section.  I'm not saying copy/paste, but develop the idea for your opinions and your market.

Look through your saved Draft folder.  Perhaps there's a chance that something you started is ready to be finished.

Have you checked in on your major local builders lately?  Is there an incentive being offered?  A new community?  A new model home?

What's going through your Facebook feed?  Something there to explore (BESIDES politics)?

Does your favorite lender have a new offering that could help local buyers?

Do you still have subdivisions left to cover in your primary market?

Long tail niches you haven't explored yet?  Homes on the golf course, or with 4 car garages?

Get the drift?  The ideas are out there, we've just got to tune in.  Even on a "nada" kind of night, open the ears and focus the ideas, your next topic is just waiting for you to find it.

Until next Tuesday, just Ask An Ambassador if you need help.

Your post about "Nothing" yet you still came up with "something" is still thought-provoking, at least to me. You always learn something new here in the AR!

I just "Followed"" you and from looking at that sign on top of this post, I thought how did they do that to write "Nothing"? What software did they use or did they just do a Google image search and used what they found?

That is something that you can write about Liz and Bill Spear !

I suspect we all have moments when coming up with a topic we want to write about challenges us. I try to keep a running list when ideas occur to me but even that runs dry. I often find inspiration just by thinking about buyer and seller situations I have had to deal with, questions they have asked, information they need.

When a post gets a lot of comments, I find that people often take a general thrust from the comments and blog about the idea. I have seen this several times lately and thought it was good fodder.

Hi Bill,
You're right... blog fodder is everywhere. I even find my mind wandering during church when the pastor says something that suddenly my brain relates to the real estate business.  Q&A is a great place for subjects too.  Sometimes those answers do deserve to be blog posts instead of a comment.

I totally know what it's like to have nothing to write about. Your questions are good ones to get the creative ideas flowing again.

A few nights ago an idea crossed my mind and I thought that it would be a rather short post, but why not. I should have found a paper and pen and written it down. By the next morning I knew I had had an idea - but what the heck WAS it??

I need to start to jot ideas down when I have them.  My mind isn't what it used to be.  But right now I enjoy the time with my baby boy so much that I don't care.

No doubt, we can get to zero inspiration after a few hundred or so blogs.  The first take a lot more effort and tend to be.... purposeful and helpful to some degree.  Then...

We don't have anything left it seems.  Yes, the feeds, the news, and some ideas unfinished or could be reworked are good ways to get jump-started.  I was totally blank for a couple of weeks and then the December Challenge came around.  I didn't know whether to post the blog I wrote or not a few months back...

Writing just works like that sometimes. There are days I have too many ideas and days where I draw a blank. I don't post as many entries as I would like as technical writing takes a lot out of me, but it doesn't stop me from writing on occcassion.
