This morning, Professor Jonathan Turley, (a highly regarded professor of law at George Washington University) one of the witnesses at the Judicial committee's house impeachment hearings, in his opening statement, was the singular voice or reason for the Republican side in the witnesses opening statements.
He is the one witness called by the Republican side... who stated that he was not a supporter of Donald Trump, he didn't vote for him. And yet his lack of support for Trump, he said, should have no bearing on his testimony any more than it should with how the committee votes.
He went on... not to defend the president, nor any of his specific actions, rather to call for "reason". He stated that everyone is angry... he's angry, his wife is angry, his children are angry... even his Labradoodle is angry, and he's never angry.
He didn't rant and rave about what an unreasonable proceeding this was, nor that the Democrats are imbeciles and have been out to get Trump since he was elected (as Jim Jordon often does). He was calm, reasoned and logical. While I don't agree with his overall direction, I admire his demeanor.
Civility... it's what's been missing.
