I have never been very politically charged, but my first broker was VERY involved in governmental affairs and encouraged me to attend different events. So, I would go sometimes to that meeting at our Association. It is cool when mayors from our City and surrounding cities come to speak on Fridays at our Association. That information is always beneficial to our buyers!
Mike Coffman was our Congressman for the State of Colorado, but did not get re-elected, and decided to run for Mayor of Aurora. It was close, but he did win the position. We had some new council people elected this year that are not in our court (REALTORS), so at our last Friday marketing meeting was asked to show support as REALTORS at the swearing-in.
We had an incident a while back in Aurora involving an officer-involved shooting where the person died, and lots of tension with the police and "Black Lives Matter" residents. There was a huge police presence Monday evening, along with many TV cameras, so was sure hoping there would not be any incidents! I left before it was all over, but wanted to see Mike Coffman taking his oath. (Sorry it is not real clear - I had to focus from way in the back of the room.)
The last time I was at City Hall for a council meeting, we as REALTORS were asked to attend and speak of the Condo Defect issue, which still has not been approved.
