In Evanston, it's illegal to change clothes in a car with the curtains drawn... EXCEPT in case of fire.

Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

A question in the Q&A's asked what laws were unique to our areas.

That caused me to do a little research, and I found this beauty about my home town.

I can't even come up with the basis for this law... I mean what must have happened in order for this law to be passed.

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall for this debate, as it went back and forth.

I mean this law is so old that it references cars with curtains?! Did cars back then often burst into flames?  And when they did, was it important to change your clothes before exiting the vehicle?

It seems life was so much more exciting and unpredictable back then.

Good morning, Alan May curtains??  I guess darkly tinted windows came after the curtains were removed from use....  and you're in Illinois.... I'd guess Chicago was the first to have dark windows.....LOL

Hello Alan - hopefully the age when "vertial blinds" became in "decorating vogue" never impacted the auto industry.  Talk about shouts of horror...

Really? Wonder how/why they needed this one on the books? At least our laws in Washington state make sense. For example, it's illegal to harass Big Foot here. Good to know, right?

That's a wacky rule! Maybe some young people were caught naked in a car with curtains and they claimed they were just getting changed?
