I've been working in the real estate technology industry for the past 7 years, at a company that has been doing it for over 20 years - and I've heard it all before...
Here are 5 Excuses Agents Should Stop Using
1. It’s Somebody Else's Fault
I want to get this excuse out of the way, because I’ve run into this a lot when working with agents. Some agents will have leads in their CRM waiting to be contacted. Or they will never log into their CRM in general, then blame the CRM for not working. At some point we all need to take ownership of our businesses. Even when it IS somebody else's fault - there are things you can do to mitigate these issues.
2. Prospecting is Too Hard
I know many agents will say if you don’t like prospecting, you might be in the wrong business. In any sales position, you should always be prospecting. You can go the traditional route with cold calling. Or you can go with asking for referrals from past clients. Either way, as you close more deals you will need a steady stream of new leads to keep your income steady. Start conversations with everybody!
3. I’m Not Tech Savvy
Not being tech savvy shouldn’t hinder you from finding success. There are plenty of companies (like Z57 for instance, there’s our plug for the article) exist solely to help make utilizing technology easier. Building websites, automating social media, syncing IDX feeds, emailing leads, can all be done with a little help.
4. I Have No Time
Everybody has the same amount of time every week. What you do with that time can make you feel like you have no time or all the time in the world. Good time management skills are necessary to keep your sanity and a healthy work-life balance. Learn to prioritize and schedule tasks. For example, check your emails once in the morning and again in the afternoon. Don’t check it during the day, so you can stay focused on what you are doing in that moment without getting sidetracked.
5. I Can Do It Myself
For as much as we know it's a bad idea for a seller to sell their own home, when a professional can do it better - it's curious to why sometimes I hear the same thing from real estate agents. Photography, website building, social media posting is definitely something you can do yourself - but it's not something we would recommend to do yourself.
