I have been feeling stiffer and less mobile this last year. I had been walking in the foothills but alas I lost my ability. There was no reason I should have I just stopped going there. I still can walk forever on the flat. I miss the foothills and my diabetes numbers are getting worse. The doc is talking about injectible medicines. I have found all medicines have some side effects. If I don't watch what I eat and exercise I have problems. Of course I am not alone. I kept thinking I would get back to it but I haven't.
The YMCA had a special with no joining fee. Hubby and I decided we would join. There are so many ways to exercise your body. They have a pool with bunches of classes. They have weight rooms, cardio rooms, dance rooms and my favorite right now. the yoga room. There are classes from 6 AM to 9 PM. If you have kids they have childcare. I don't have kids. Or should I say, my three babies are now men?
I showed up at gentle yoga at 2 PM. There were a lot of older people (I guess at 58 I am becoming an older person). I am stiff as a board. I enjoyed the class and the teacher was helpful. She suggested at first I come 2 or 3 times a week. Whatever we did it helped my back. For 2 days my back wasn't stiff. Maybe I will graduate to normal yoga some day. I went back yesterday for the same class and same teacher and found I could do a bit more. I also rode a bike before class for 10 minutes. Not much cardio but a bit. There were some moves I can't do yet at all ut that is OK. I must admit to being afraid of the weight room. I want to go back today but it depends on how late my 1 PM meeting goes.
It is hard to make time to go the class I want but this is part of becoming the new me. The me that can walk foothills again. Maybe I could go to the deep water aerobics at 7 AM, but maybe I should start slow. Both Boise YMCA's are near the two offices of John L Scott in Boise.
