There is No Shame/Crime in "Not Knowing"...BUT....

By
Real Estate Agent with EXP Realty 414-525-0563 57026-90 Broker

Everyone has different experiences in any profession...being licensed for a long time doesn't mean you know everything about every area....and no one expects that knowledge from agents/lenders with any length or experience.

When an agent....title person...lender with lots of experience in a given listarea explains the reason for....X....the process of Y....If this happens, the result is that...timelines...property values...the list goes on and on.

Before you jump down the throat of an person with experience...or write a comment on an area in which you don't live, a contract not correctly completed, a niche you don't have, a loan you never handled...Listen...you might learn something.

We always say...."The Smartest People we know, Know what they don't know".  A college diploma, multiple degrees, certifications, designations...licenses ...do not mean you know all there is to know about everything....everywhere. Education is a wonderful thing and we Open mindpride ourselves on having an "Education Based Practice." Can we learn more...Yes....we have that option every day to learn in real estate and to learn life lessons as well, If is up to each of use to open our minds...to get rid of that nasty word ASSUME. Basing real estate practices, comments, life in general on assumptions...the way it WAS done is the way it always SHOULD be done....old news and not necessarily correct.

It's almost a NEW decade....how about a Resolution/Revolution to use both ears....an open mind....and the very kindergarten old but still very true...."Watch, Look and Listen" ....how refreshing that would be !

This is a life lesson post brought to you by Sally K. & David L. Hanson,  Broker Associates with EXP Realty, LLC, honored to be of service for all things real estate in southeastern Wisconsin.

Hello Sally K. & David L. Hanson, I LOVE this post. We can't possibly know everything so there's no reason to pretend. It serves us best when we listen more than we speak.

Sally and David I have come to the same realization as Ron and Alexandra Seigel father.  I have learned that the more I learn, the more I realize how much I do not know, and have yet to learn.

There's no shame in not knowing - but plenty of shame in pretending to know and giving answers/advice that isn't valid.

Morning Sally.

While I know a lot about some things, I would never consider myself an expert on anything.

Hi Sally,
As far as I'm concerned we don't need to know everything. We can't ever. We only need to know where to get answers and how to solve problems.

Well said! It’s always OK to say “I don’t know. That’s a great question, let me find out!”

Hi Sally and David:

There are some wise words here! No one in the business knows it all, which is true for any profession. It's OK to admit you don't know and even better to spend the time finding out, or finding someone who does know.

Jeff

Great observation.  My Greek uncle, Doris, used to say to my mother: "Seeing and doing, seeing and doing".  Observe and then decide what is appropriate.  Pretty simple.  Thank you!
