"And though she be but little, she is fierce."

Girls On The Run of Central Maryland 5K.
It was one cold morning in central Maryland today, and super tempting to stay under a cozy, warm pile of blankets for just five more minutes when the alarm went off at 6 am. But when you have worked hard for 10+ weeks, when you've trained to run the distance, when you've prepared mentally and physically, when you have made the commitment to show up, you only hit that snooze button once. You jump out of bed and into your layers of running gear, you fuel your body with a bowl of warm oatmeal, you lace up your sneakers and you head to START!
And that is just how things played out at my house this morning.
Today was the Fall 2019 season-ending 5K event for the Girls On The Run of Central MD, and it was one spectacular event! Organization was top-notch, the course just right, and the support phenomenal. My daughter and her best friend LOVED the program, and today's 5K race. As their buddy runner, I couldn't be more proud! They paced themselves. They enjoyed the race. They sprinted across the FINISH line with a huge smile!
If you are not familiar with GOTR (Girls On The Run), this sums today's celebration up nicely:
"At GOTR of Central Maryland, we celebrate the limitless potential of our girls and inspire them to be joyful, healthy and confident. The 5K event is the crowning moment of their participation in this life-changing program."
I encourage you to find out more, to consider donating, volunteering, coaching and/or running an end-of-season event with your daughter. You will both take away so much - I promise. The program builds/boosts confidence, it encourages, supports, provides coping skills, opens dialog, embraces, nurtures... and may just ignite that passion to run, to race, to become better, bolder, and to believe that you can do anything.
The runner's high is real and so worth it... that's what she said - little but fierce. And she's right!
