A big thanks to Nina for helping us keep our pets safe during the holidays. So many decorations, food and presents look and smell enticing to our furry friends but can result in bad reactions or worse when ingested.

Be sure to keep all of your holiday preparations pet-safe and pet-friendly.

Tips To Keep Your Pets Safe Around Christmas Trees

Christmas tree sales are in full swing all around the Charlotte region (and probably most everywhere else). If dogs and/or cats are members of your family, following some basic tips about decorating your tree wil keep your pets safe during the holiday season. Why ruin a happy holiday season by taking chances with your pets' well-being?

Holiday Plants Dangerous To Pets

  1. Pine Christmas Trees: opt for a fir or spruce, instead of pine, if you like to put up a live tree. Pine trees aren’t toxic to dogs, but they can be to cats and can cause liver damage and even death. Be sure to sweep up needles every day and cover the tree base with a skirt to block pet from drinking water.

  2. Poinsettias: while not totally toxic to pets, poinsettia leaves produce a sap that can irritate a dog's or cat’s mouth and esophagus.

  3. Holly & Mistletoe:  Holly leaves and berries can cause vomiting, drooling and abdominal pain. If ingested in large amounts, more severe reactions can occur, such as a drop in blood pressure and heart rate, breathing problems, seizures and even death.

Morning Michelle.

Our Sheldon is a caution canine if nothing else.  He stays away from anything he is not familiar with. Hence, we don't worry about him messing around with the tree
