Speechless Sundays - Breaking the Older Girl In

I know - it sounds like I'm talking about a car, doesn't it?! Well, this 6-year old kitty has a couple of habits that we have been working on and let me tell you, she's made major progress in a month!

Emma Belle Maxwell

Miss Emma Belle likes to scratch her claws on everything! We have been using one firm word, "NO!" when she does it and then showing her the scratching tree that we have for her. She's doing quite well with that now.

She also had a little work to do on her 'socialization' and has become far more social since we first adopted her. In fact, we hosted an event in our home for the Humane Society on Thursday and many of our guests were thrilled to meet her - and she was out greeting them too! That was a MAJOR milestone for her.  We're almost there!

Happy Sunday everyone!

That is so true, Michael Jacobs! While she had one small dog/brother in her old home, these two, I'm sure took a little more adjustment for her - and her 'daddy' being in a wheelchair was a little 'odd' to her at first too. She's now enjoying riding around in his lap but, that took a couple of weeks!

Oh, that is something that I never had an issue with Charlotte (the scratching), Barbara Todaro. So, I wasn't quite sure how to handle her! LOL

Thankfully, I tried the same technique I used with the boys (dogs) and it is working.

Doesn't she, Sheila Anderson? I'm so in love with her - she's just so 'responsive' to being loved. We're doing the hold-tight for 5-10 minute trick, rocking her and boy, she's gone from being as stiff as a tree to melding into the crook of our arms! It's quite remarkable and now she comes to us for loving, which is a major step!

I am, indeed, George Souto! She's been the best grief therapy we could have asked for. I will say that I think the initial challenges are almost over. Now we move onto getting her in better physical shape - she's a round one!! LOL

Oh, her eyes have even changed - they're no longer sad and 'withdrawn,' Ron and Alexandra Seigel. She's leaps & bounds more adjusted and indeed, she knows she's found a loving home.

Isn't that the way it always is - they train US! Myrl Jeffcoat, she is also doing a grand job of training the boys (dogs)! She's following right in Charlotte's footsteps in that regard!

Aww, I catch her looking at me sometimes and it really does feel like she understands how much we love her already! Cats are just so intuitive, aren't they?!

Aren't they adorable, Mike Bjork? We also have dogs so, the two combined make for interesting dynamics - and, of course, lots of laughter in our home too!

Oh that's a great bit of news. She is adorable and no doubt will be as outgoing and friendly as her human mama one day soon. Love her name too. D

Oh, thank you, Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD! It's raining cats & dogs today here in Charlotte so, I'm working from home mostly (other than two short appointments). So, I'm making my calls and when I'm on the phone, I pace. Well, she has taken to following me around and I'm just waiting for someone on the other end of the line to ask me what the 'jingling' sound is! (She sadly likes to chase [and capture] birds so, we have to continue the collar that she wears with a bell so that doesn't happen on our watch.)

And, my hubby named her - he's an old soul so, I totally get how he came up with the name!

Some cats I’ve seen do race around the house like cars and wrestle each other.
