This agnostic's wish for tolerance

Christmas is my family's most-revered holiday. We NEVER celebrate it as Christ's Day, because we are an avowedly secular family. But we honor it as a day for building firmament-solid traditions, to join us with memories to pass down for many generations. In that light, in a month which holds sacred events for many of us,  I was curious to see just how extensive that list of events might be. This interfaith calendar is compiled by the Pew Research Center, an extremely well-regarded think tank. This link gets you to the calendar. Peace to all of us, and the freedom to observe, or not observe, as we wish. I'm pointing to 2020 in hopes that some of us will proactively join our neighbors in their celebrations.

I wish you the best and hope you and yours have a blessed and enjoyable Holiday season Lauren Williams, CPO

We are an avowedly Christian family who have chosen to follow the Christ, Jesus. As Free Will beings we are all endowed with freedom to choose, just as Jesus chose to die for each of us we each are free to choose whether or not to live for Him.

Doug Dawes I think there is wisdom in many paths, and that there are far more commonalities to religions than there are differences. I also suspect, agnostic though I am, that I share an opinion with many Christians that Christmas has been miserably profaned with commercialism. Lauren

Lauren,

I am one of those lucky children who celebrated both the regular Christmas and the Greek Orthodox version...Seriously the word tolerance implies that we force ourselves to tolerate.  That is not good enough for me, I think we should accept all people just as we accept everything good in our lives...A

Ron and Alexandra Seigel I've never had the pleasure of sharing Greek Orthodox observances. Many bar mitzvahs, Seders, other Jewish services, Catholic Easter Mass, Catholic Christmas Mass, various Protestant celebrations. The first sermon and Sunday service of a newly-ordained pastor, a teacher in my high school, so many years ago I no longer remember the denomination, still stands out in my mind. You've got a thought-provoking interpretation of tolerance - thank-you. I agree with you about acceptance being the true goal - I just never thought of tolerance as a "window-dressing" word. I think you're right. Lauren
