Fact - Fiction - Feelings Of Fa La La La 

 

Fact - Fiction - Feelings Of Fa La La La   Christmas Day is a traditional movie-going time for me.   Sometimes two. 

 

This year was a bit different with other activities taking place.  So it wasn't until this past Friday, I saw the movie Bombshell.   Again this isn't a movie review but my experience seeing it. 

 

I woke the morning after seeing the film and as I headed out the front door the coldness of the Southern California winter "hit" me.  That was followed by the arrival of a certain feeling.    Feelings matter.  Instincts.  Gut reactions.  Reactions are an important factor in  this film and the occurrences in the real life too.  

 

Although it is an important story even without the presence of the movie, it's good to be aware that film has a place in history and in current events.  I had heard about the movie before its December 2019 release but tried to keep that early buzz in check.  I know it is  based on a true story.  It's about some real-life "personalities" at Fox News and sexual harassment.  There is also a part of the movie that is a composite of characters and events.  I will leave it at that.  If you are curious or interested, you can research elsewhere. 

 

The cast is good.  I have seen them perform well in other productions.  Charlize Theron.  Nicole Kidman.  Margot Robbie.  John Lithgow.  Maybe you recognize the names of the some of the characters(each name pops up on screen as the character initially speaks) but because I am not a Fox follower, I was a bit confused at times because (damn!) they all look similar to me.   That's my issue I understand but I do mention it in case you notice it. Let me say there are some incredible transformations in my opinion.

 

Real life versus the not-so-real characters in this all-too-real story left me wondering.  More than once.  I like movies about the behind-the-scenes news business and there have been many made over the years of my movie-going.  I wouldn't say this is my "favorite" but the real world consequences remain quite valid.  If this movie helps the conversation continue - I believe that is good.

Kathy Streib - I know.  Not exactly light holiday fare.  I was thinking maybe the Tom Hanks/Mr Rogers movie which I still haven't seen but while the subject is rather deep/dark I am glad I saw it.  The cast is good.

This one has been on my list. Like you, I'm not familiar with Fox personalities but the actors involved are known to me and the storyline certainly is interesting.

Also...we got around to watching The Irishman last night. It kept my interest throughout most of it, but I found the ending of it to be slow and depressing. I was left with many questions that I just don't have the interest to follow up.

I'm not a big follower of movies because there is so much nonsense out there... violence and vulgarity.  This does sound interesting so I might have to put it on my list. Thanks for the heads up.

Sharon Tara - I assume some of the mysterious angles to the story will be forever left untold/unsaid when it comes to The Irishman.

Yes, I've heard Charlize Theron's performance is quite amazing. I don't watch Fox either, but I am quite familiar with this story. 

 

As for movie going - Doubt you'd really want to see it, but I may sneak off to see Little Women - I hear it's pretty darn good too. I loved "Cats" on Broadway, but will likely skip after reading the reviews. I'm probably going to watch Bombshell, in the future, in our living room.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD - although it's not on my immediate must-see movie list, I have heard good things about Little Women also..  I don't think I have seen any of the previous/multiple versions of it. As for Cats I have heard two things that make it memorable(in the wrong way). Catastrophe was one.  Another favorite:  why didn't anyone say PAUSE(or paws) after they saw the initial scenes from  filming????  Those comments speak volumes.  While I don't necessarily believe in reviews I think these reinforce any inkling I might have of seeing the movie.  I haven't seen the play.  Amazingly, I have survived.
