If your sink takes longer to drain or you see stagnant water under the shower, you shouldn’t overlook such warning signs. A blocked drain is one of the most common plumbing issues which you would have to face sooner or later. So, you should better think about different smart ways of clearing it.

Here are six easy to drastic tips mentioned to help you clear blocked drains.

Hanger

You can simply take the hanger from your wardrobe and get it straightened as much as you can. You can then bend the one corner of the hanger to make a small hook. Now, if you push this hanger into the drain, you might be able to catch a lot of hair, debris, and other nasty stuff. However, you must try to get the dirt out instead of pushing it further. After you are done, you can run the hot water into the drain to make it clear.

Natural Solution

You can prepare natural solutions at home to clear your blocked drains. But you should be careful with the amount of the ingredients you use. For instance, if you intend to prepare the solution of vinegar and baking soda. You must use 1/3rd cup of the vinegar and mix it with 1/3rd cup of baking soda. After that, you can pour the solution into the drain to remove every sort of dust and debris. It is better if you let the solution sit there for a while for effective results.

Vacuum

Vacuum is the tool that can do magic when it comes to clearing a blocked drain. All you need to do is turn the liquid settings on to pull the dirt out of the pipe. It will then go directly into the vacuum bag which you can clean later.

Boiling Water

Boiling water is the easiest solution for a lot of plumbing problems. You must boil the ample amount of water in a kettle and pour it into the clogged drain at different intervals. You should also allow the hot water to stay in the pipe for some time for the finest results.

Plumber’s Snake

Plumber’s snake is another best tool which you should try. You can get it easily from any hardware store. First, you will have to unscrew the drainpipe to detach it from the sink. Once it is exposed to you, you can push the plumber’s snake into it until you feel the blockage. However, if there is flooding all around you due to the blocked drain, you shouldn’t wait and try your tricks. Instead, it is advised to call an emergency plumber immediately to get help.

Caustic Soda

Caustic soda is an effective but risky solution that can give you chemical burns. So, you should wear gloves and a face mask to handle it with care. You can mix it in the hot water before pouring it into the drain. It is also advised to leave it for at least 20 minutes to get a clean drain.

These are great suggestions - thanks for the repost - the hanger is always a great starting point for slow shower drains. My cousin used to do that and then pour in the vinegar and baking soda.

Hi Barbara Todaro - At one point in time, I have used all of these. Of course, my husband handles the caustic soda.  Right now I have a dryer vent issue and have a vent cleaning company coming the first week in January.
