SIGNALS

The only person who should recognize the traffic lights

at this intersection where I waited for the lights to change is

Kat Palmiotti

Dreams. We all have dreams about what we would like to do, where we want to go, and what we would like to accomplish. On the day this photo was taken, I just left my hotel and was heading home waiting for the lights to change. The sun rose to meet me and the red lights signaled that waiting patiently is an opportunity to stop and think carefully.

Change. It is just a matter of time when we can say goodbye to 2019 and welcome in the new year. Like many people, I am carefully reviewing and adding new ideas into my 2020 goals. It's funny how just a couple of months ago I thought my goals were finished. Time can change your mind, just like scenery. Your vision becomes clearer or blurred. Change has a lot to do with timing.

Signals. Business Author, Allen Adamson wrote "It's a signal that the Internet and technology brands are becoming more interwoven into everyday life. It's moved from a specialty niche to the center of people's lives." In retrospect, there is no denying consumers are more tech savvy comprising of many Millennials, employees, students, and the self-employed who rely on technology to do business.

Move. We are always on the move. Even at traffic lights, our mind is thinking. The Internet has changed the way realtors do business and how consumers think. Since this photograph was taken, I have done a lot of thinking and learned quite a bit. Did you know, there are three types of signals that are carried from your body to your brain through your spinal cord? They are sensory, motor, and reflex. According to medical research the only difference between motor and reflex is one is voluntary; the other involuntary.

Signals do change. When it comes to real estate sales, people move either voluntarily or involuntarily. To optimize your best move between cities, states, and different locations, consumers need to hire the best in the industry. Relying on the Internet is like waiting for the lights to change when you're in a hurry. Accidents and the wrong move can happen. Moving is serious business. Choosing a real estate agent based solely on what's on the Internet is as dangerous as choosing the wrong surgeon. If you're looking to move to or from Flower Mound or the Dallas-Fort Worth area, please let me know.

I think I have a photo just like that one! I like your segue to signals, moving and change. Life does change, all the time. I was just saying to Anthony, who knew 5 years ago we'd be in Montana? Life can be depressing, exciting, challenging, easy, but no matter what, it's always changing.

Kat Palmiotti - Thanks for the positive feedback! Life is filled with many emotions. Glacier National Park is such a natural high that keeps you on the top of your game. I think my first year there was 2014 or 15. Immediately I fell in love with the mountains and all the beautiful scenery. My first two trips were before the forest fires and the Autumn colors were absolutely brilliant. I hope to get back there in 2020.

I hope you have something special planned for your first New Year in Kalispell!

Hi Patricia, I agree that choosing a real estate agent based solely on what's on the Internet is as dangerous as choosing the wrong surgeon. We only have two traffic lights downtown and hoping this never changes. Wishing you a very happy, healthy, and successful 2020!

Rebecca Gaujot, Realtor® - Your support means the world to me. I was thrilled to hear you say you agree with me about the danger of choosing a real estate agent based on what people read on the Internet. That was message I wanted to get across.

Just as our lives depend on a skilled surgeon, consumers have a lot at stake when they hire someone to represent them in what may be the most expensive financial investment of their lives.

Thank you!!!

I would also like to extend best wishes for a very happy, healthy, and successful 2020!

Oh, I'm so with you on this, Patricia! I think the very nature of the times in which we live, makes us have to re-evaluate our business plan more often than before. My son & I were in the bookstore on Friday and we were looking at marketing books (his degree is in business & marketing). We decided that they were all outdated and, in fact, he suggested that they were probably outdated the second they hit the printing press!

And, I feel strongly about not selecting an agent online - fake recommendations/testimonials & advertising themselves (their stats) falsely are RAMPANT on the internet and it really concerns me for the consumer.

I am always looking for signals in life and even when I see them, I wonder if I am seeing them because I am wanting to see them or if it is really the way I am supposed to be going, haha.

Debe Maxwell, CRS - Yes! Re-evaluate. Re-evaluate life, business, health, personal, diet, technology and every single decision and the plans you made, are making, or know that you need to change. Change is constant! Habits follow. They can get us into trouble, leave us behind, or help us to advance.

Marketing Books. Education. Always changing! Outdated before implementation. Just like the education. I enrolled in Data Processing in Computer Science. Graduation with three Associate Degrees meant nothing when applying for jobs. Signals changed upon graduation. I went back to the school and wanted my money back. They said no. Schools hire those who are qualified to teach. Books are published (back then, they were all expensive hard copy text books). By the time a student graduates today is tomorrow's yesterday. The information taught isn't current because teachers have to be present in the classrooms teaching what they learned, knew and were qualified to teach when hired.....it's too expensive and not realistic to expect teachers/instructors to do both learn simultaneously while teaching what students enrolled in at the time of enrollment and books are published in advance - obsolete before students graduate. Your son is correct.

The biggest awakening to the general public since the 2016 elections is Fake News! It isn't just in politics. It is in the medical world, education, advertising, the media, and real estate too. Think iBuyers, opiate crisis, realtors claiming to be stars, top bananas, top producers - bs... we know from month to month stats and business changes. One day, you can be a King Pin; the next day out of work, no buyers, no sellers. Success in real estate is not constant for all agents. NAR publishes on average how many sales each agent does; yet read the Internet. See. Watch. Listen. Know the difference between reality and fake.

We are continuing to adjust to our ever-changing industry. Change is inevitable, it is happening in every single moment. Guess what, in the minute it takes to write this comment, something has already changed. We are looking forward to many wonderful moments in 2020 - and yes, we are poised to make adjustments.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD - yours is an extraordinary testimonial to how you make changes, "We are continuing to adjust to our ever-changing industry."

When Allen Adamson wrote "Its a signal that the Internet and technology brands are becoming more interwoven into everyday life," he was right.

Looking forward to 2020 with a positive mindset, eyes open, open to change, and willing to make continuous adjustments is worth pondering to include in our Mission Statements.

Are you saying it is time for me to update my pager?   It is remarkable the changes that we have gone through over the past 50 years and it will be fun to see what comes next.  Happy New Year!

Raymond Henson - I still remember the first day I received my very own Pager. I felt so important and tech savvy! I wonder how many Millennials know what Pager is or what a big deal it was?

I am looking forward to seeing what develops next. I saw the movie "Knives Out" and read some articles on Artificial Intelligence. I'm thinking AI Alpha Go is something to keep your eyes on!

Hi Patricia:

What a thoughtful post, and especially so as we begin the new year with  whatever changes we decide to implement  in our lives - business and personal - as well as those that simply will be.

Happy New Year!! Hope we all pay attention to those signals!

Jeff

Jeff Dowler, CRS - Thoughtful comments like yours fills me up with hope and joy. We all need to pay attention to signals we receive. The universe is always trying to get our attention, one way or another! The fact is, nobody really has all their ducks in a row. Change and challenge goes together like night and day. We can never take anyone or anything for granted.

I wish you and your loved ones a very Happy New Year. Take care!!!
