It's the Spirit of the Community that Makes a Difference

It is the spirit of the community that makes one feel happy and gives an individual a reason for feeling like they belong. This photo was snapped at the corner of Cross Timbers Road and Morris Road in Flower Mound after leaving my bank. I prefer walking inside rather than banking on-line because it is less crowded and Tellers there are friendly and welcoming.

How one is greeted makes all the difference in the world. When I stopped at my doctor's office the lady at the reception desk said, Good Morning, Mrs. Feager, how is your daughter? Two things gave me a reason to believe I belonged in my community because of respect and remembrance. It has been a very long time since anyone addressed me as Mrs. and the fact that she remembered something of importance I mentioned about my daughter the last time I visited was sincerely appreciated because she listened and knew I shared concerns about a family member. Caring about others and showing respect are the greatest gifts community members can give to local residents.

Greetings! How one is greeted determines whether or not people want to do business with you. My next stop was to the printers. I'm a loyal customer for more than a decade because they know me by name. face, and the reason why I stop by. I don't even have to tell them who I am when I walk in the door. They treat me like family and acknowledge my presence without keeping me waiting. Excellent services is why I keep going back.

There are a lot of good reasons to do business by phone or on-line but sometimes it's more refreshing to do business in person. Getting to know people. Having a sense of belonging. Being treated with respect. Listening. Knowing who you are doing business with by name and recognition. Supporting local business owners, facilities, and the people who work there are nourishment to the soul. Yesterday was a good day to do business. It was 70 degrees. The clouds were sweeping the sky with designs of their own paintings in the sky! If you are local to my community or thinking about moving to Flower Mound or the surrounding communities, please give me a call.

Bernie and I were just talking about this, Patricia. We are both so turned off by all of the beginning of the year salesy talk going on in our market - and beyond, on social media. Realtors darn near begging for clients.  "Do you know anyone who needs a great agent? I appreciate referrals - bla bla bla. I sell houses better than anybody else. bla bla bla." For us, it's about relationships, a genuine desire to get to know someone first. And if we can help them with real estate, great. If not, they are still worth knowing.  The bottom line, if we do a great job for people, referrals come when we consistently keep a relationship going with prospective and past clients - as long as it's based on true interest and value - not out of a desire to hook a sale.

Kat Palmiotti - Thank you! I try my best to keep things positive when communicating with others, knowing too well, I may never get another chance. That is the way I want to be remembered. Even if I am forgotten, I hope good energy is left behind.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD - Robo calls and bogus realtor solicitation has flooded my way, in excess beginning on January 1st; it seems to get worse day-by-day. Just think! This is only the 9th day of January! I waste so much time looking up these numbers only to discover they are scams. The other day, I got one from Sweden!!! It's ridiculous!!!

If only we could build a WALL around cyber snappers!

That kind of care at a doctor's office is becoming a rare thing in many parts of the country.  You are fortunate to still have it.

Patricia that personal touch makes a big difference in deciding who I give my business to, even if it costs me a little more.

Hi Patricia - it's all about that special personal touch day in and day out.  Treat people like you care about them (because we do care)!  It's easy to spot an excellent business person!  OMG I meant to write about this gal I met at Kohls of all places.  She was 82 and the happiest lady I've ever met in a store.  I need to find a picture of her.  You'd love her smile! Obviously she doesn't need to work but rather LOVES to work! Amazing spirit!  I can imagine her training the other workers to adopt her happy style of working with customers!

 Found her!

What you write rings true!  When you get away from your computer and cell phone and are shaking hands and telling stories and asking about the welfare of family and friends, there are bonds that develop which make life a more pleasant journey...

Anna Banana Kruchten Broker/Owner, CRB, CRS - What a lovely lady working at Kohls with such a SMART face! I'm not a betting lady, but I would bet she can sachet across a waxed floor from one end to the other, then cha-cha around newly hired employees fresh out of High School, leaving them breathless and exhausted by the end of their work shifts. Also, I have no doubt that she can add, subtract, divide, multiple, and figure out the tax in her head without a calculator, using her fingers, or ringing up the cash register. Furthermore, I wouldn't be surprised if she could size up any customer and get them the right size without a tape measure either. They just don't make enough store ladies like that anymore!

You're lucky you have that lovely lady working near-by. Her smile is infectious! As for her face, I've seen older looking faces on women 50 - 70 years old than hers. I'm convinced, the happier women are the less make-up they need. Her smile is REAL!!!

I absolutely love your comment! It meant a lot to me. Thank you happy Anna!!!

Patricia, what an uplifting post. Inspiring graciousness and genuine neighborliness in your community is a treasure indeed.  As Mryl pointed out, other regions are not so fortunate these days.  Your descriptions of eacb encounter were so poignant like painting a picture with words.  You are indeed blessed and buyers will learn a lot from you as you introduce them around town.

John Henry, Florida Architect - Alleluia!!! You summed up the message perfectly!!! Honestly, it's such a nice feeling to have good customer service. There are many people deprived of smiles, conversations, and human touch at homes and assisted living places too. And even worse, children are starving for love and attention in all the wrong places.

We need to do a better job keeping people active in their senior years. There is a lot of wisdom that doesn't deserve to go to waste. People don't need meds - they need bonding! A sense of the community! Caring and sharing stories, shaking hands and not shaking fingers at other people, simply smiling and doing the right thing because it is the right way to live because it can make signficant change and perhaps add more years to living.

Daily intereactions with real people could be the pick-me-up without the necessity for coffee or liquor. You know John, if people realized that sitting for hours behind a computer made them fat, they wouldn't have need for diet drinks and skimpy meals fit for rabbits.

Kris Collis, Associate Broker - I only have one life to live. I believe I have what everyone wants - to have that sense of belonging. It's the happiness that gives us enough wealth to be happy and we need to receive common courtesy and good manners to appreciate the gifts of humanity. No life should be devoid of joy. Making others feel welcome and having respect for one another is at the very least what we can do for each other. When you think about it, computers aren't very healthy at all. If they were, they wouldn't get all those  virus' as frequently as they do or need to be replaced because their value is just a worthless hunk of junk.

As always, it's so nice to hear from you and all the people here on ActiveRain! Thank you!!!

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 - Thanks!

I was mesmerized by the clouds! There were so many different patterns in the sky. Of course, I have a lot more and it was hard to choose. Then I decided it didn't matter which ones I chose, they were all so unique and beautiful! I plan to frame a few. I'm glad to hear you liked them too!!!

The spirit of the community comes through by way of the people who provide services. January 8th was a wonderful day to be in Flower Mound! The sky was a mural, a beautiful art work in the sky. The people were friendly and kind to one another. I had such a good feeling all day long and kept that spirit alive wherever I went. It was waking up the next morning to cloudy skies that reflection took place which inspired me to write this blog post.

May you have good the good fortune to be surrounded by positive influence today and everyday.

It is little things that make our days, a smile, a helping hand or attitude. You identify what so many are looking for a relationship rather than just a transaction, to be included rather than excluded.

Hi Patricia:

What a feel good post this was! A simple greeting with a smile makes such a difference, and is always appreciated. And it makes what follows...an interaction, an answer to a question, a problem to be solved...so much better.

This is an important reminder for us all when we are meeting prospects or clients, whether in person, on the phone or otherwise.

Enjoy your weekend!

Jeff

Jeff Dowler, CRS - BINGO! You got it! We have to stop living in fear which many of us have been conditioned to since 9/11 and start enjoying interactions with people we do business with. I feel lucky that I'm getting that really good feeling in Flower Mound and I hope many others will get on board and enjoy the people from their community where they interact with on a regular basis. Although, it's so convenient not have to drive the distance and take care of business on-line, people are missing out on building true relationships with others in business. I have to tell you, there's no greater feeling than to walk into a doctor's office and they greet you by name and remember a conversation from the last time you were there. For me, it's a better choice than music or T.V. playing.

May your day be great in every way!

Candice A. Donofrio - I think it's safe to say as agents and Brokers, we are givers. A lot of our time is spent giving advice, working with or without clients, working long hours behind the scenes, trying to get leads, following up with other people, going the distance to make a transaction work, consoling buyers when their offer wasn't accepted, meeting our own needs, etc. I don't know how many agents stop to think how much they are giving on a day-to-day basis for free, just to stay in the business.

I was very fortunate on January 8th to look up and see the beautiful artwork in the sky! It set the tone, for things to come. As I went about my personal and real business within my local community, I was blessed with so much kindness. It made such an impression on me that I wished those good feelings would never end. Hence, the reason why on the 9th I had to share my joy and experiences. Overall, the positive response from AR members, like yourself extended my joy and happiness and that joy IS the gift that keeps on giving.

I appreciate the good support I receive here on ActiveRain and I wish the same good feelings to all!
