Little Steps Create A Trail

Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Elite 513.520.5305 SAL.2002007747

Jefe wants out!We have four Chihuahuas.

As Chihuahuas are, they're small dogs.

You wouldn't expect they could change a whole lot in our yard.  They're not diggers.  When we take them out, they take care of business, maybe sprint after each other a few times when they're a few ounces lighter, and head back to the deck to go inside.

And yet, if I look in our back yard I see a little Chihuahua version of the Chisolm Trail.  Off the deck to the stepping stones, then they hang left along the face of the two kennels, turn the corner at the main kennel fence and head towards the back flower gardens.

Those little feet have worn a trail through the grass.

Little steps, repeated often have created that trail.

Now in real estate, agents are often looking for the great big shiny thing, the silver talisman that gets business fast.  Ready now home buyers and sellers just begging for you to help them, they're out there, right?

A cold calling Facebook page manager called me today and said in his best call center voice said "Will, I've been looking at your business page and we can help you improve it!".  And if you want to talk about trying to blaze a trail, calling me is the equivalent of trying to find your way through a white-out blizzard.  There's not going to be any trail cut to my wallet.  As soon as I hear that a call is obviously coming from a call center, I'm already half way to hanging up.  When you guess I like to be called "Will", well you just goofed.  And when you think I care much about giving me a quick whiz bang "cure" for my Facebook business page, I'm already telling you to move on to your next victim prospect.

For me, my Facebook business pages are more about overall presence than about directly bringing me business.  They're not my bread and butter and never will be.

What I've learned works for me is little step projects.

A blog that has post after post added to it.

A Wordpress site with subdivision after subdivision custom search pages.

It's answering my phone when someone calls.

It's responding to emails quickly.

It's delivering on my promises to clients.

All little steps.

Any one by itself might not too much, but put together, they build that trail to a better business.

Little steps.  No secret about it.

Hello Will and Betty(err I mean Bill and Liz) - don't you just love it when a "friendly" call center representative contacts you with the incorrect name? Even when that isn't followed by a click of the phone you know the conversation is not likely to improve.  Little steps are important in creating trails of all kinds.  Another good analogy. For business and in life.

Hi there, Bill. Cute analogy to the formidable trail created by the little feet in your fur family. I'm so sick of these calls - argh.
