Everyone has a different idea of the “perfect” starter home. But there are some home features that are more popular with first-time homebuyers than others—and if you’re thinking about selling your home, it’s important you know what, exactly, those features are.

recent survey from home insurance resource Clovered found that the features first-time buyers are most looking for in their home include central air conditioning (62.7 percent), a private backyard (61.9 percent), and storage space (53.5 percent). Additional wish list items include plenty of natural light (50.4 percent), a separate laundry room (40.3 percent), and hardwood floors (39.5 percent).

If you’re thinking about selling your home, getting clear on what first-time buyers are looking for can help you figure out the best way to market your home—and if there are any renovations (like sprucing up your hardwoods) or additions (like installing central air) you can make to ensure your property speaks to buyers.
