The Company Vehicle

The Company Vehicle  The other day I was thinking about the company vehicle.  The concept at least.  I have never had use of a company vehicle.   But the thought came to mind as I saw two examples of company vehicles in action

The first was a van with its company logo.  I was in a crosswalk as it careened(I use italics intentionally) around the corner.  No harm. No foul.  Definitely no big deal but I did take notice.

A bit further up the street, I came upon a second vehicle from a different company.  This one was a bit larger and parked on the street with a uniformed person unloading his cargo.  Nothing much to notice.  I then saw a woman approach him and it looked as if he was giving directions.  It appeared to me that she thanked him and went on her way.  Again, no big deal but I did take notice.

My point:  you never know who is watching.  No reason to say anything but taking casual notice. Well, maybe.  Even the seemingly smallest acts may be noticed.  Consciously and otherwise.

If you think about it - it's not necessarily about any particular vehicle.  Or even a company.  How do we represent ourselves when we are out and about.  Regardless of what company we may represent or industry. It matters as a person.  A member of the human race but that may impact a lot more.

Just some random pondering about the company vehicle.  And maybe a bit more.  Just maybe.

Sally K. & David L. Hanson - exactly.  You said it quite succinctly.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD - your mother or the neighbors(after all they know/see all and are quite willing to share).

Sheila Anderson - something to keep in mind.

Jeffrey DiMuria 321.223.6253 Waves Realty - and I wonder if she cared???

Lottie Kendall - we can each likely cite an example of such behavior.  On and off the road.  A good message for us to understand in our own lives in different ways.

Michael,

When we were in commercial real estate, driving the Beverly Hills Ford made a difference.  It screamed success, and we had two of them.  We still drive one, because we like the car, love the service we get, and the comfort.  A

Michael Jacobs ~ MJ.... Heck yes! We are human and in my humble opinion -no matter who's watching, the responsibility falls directly on us. And I am under the impression that each and every day we have a chance to make a small but important difference one way or another Great thoughts!

Hi Michael- like social media that gives us the illusion of anonymity, some think that our vehicles give us the same cloak of invisibility (a reference to Harry Potter )  We have to be mindful of not being jerks behind the wheel and possibly bringing harm to others but also bringing harm to our own reputation.

BTW- a KW agent walks where we do and they have a big logo with photos of themselves on it. And I will say that when you pass them on the trail, they are always smiling and courteous.

I was warned; when I had a company vehicle, that I could lose the privilage if I didn't respect others... (I was a billboard for what people thought of the company.)

Today is Friday, make it special Michael

Michael - your point is well taken! You never know who is watching! There are many more eyes today, especially with cell phone cameras, home security systems, the RING, and the eyes do tell! Although I never had a company car, I did have a real estate magnet on my automobile. When I was working towards my Paralegal Degree, the attorney advised me to take it off and gave me a list of good reasons.

Kathy Streib - any reference to Harry Potter is likely to go over my head and the example in your comment achieved that.  Whoosh - right over my head.

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS - seems fair to me.

Sharon Lee - I don't know the book but that makes sense.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP - especially these days.  While you don't hear "Smile, you're on Candid Camera..." it's a possibility that you are being watched.

Roy Kelley - owning the company as well as the car is definitely putting you on notice to be on your best behavior always.

Rebecca Gaujot, Realtor® - must be in the "Mother Handbook".  I heard it as well.

I'm retired now, for the most part, but... I had magnetic business signs on my car many years ago. I stopped using them after about six months because it was too stressful having my name and phone number written on my car everywhere I went. I guess I prefer my privacy more than advertising my business.
