Need a Notary on a Sunday or Holiday? Call a Bail Bondsman!
Sometimes the easiest solutions are right in front of you.
I discovered this recently while trying to assist a client. We needed a real estate document notarized on a Sunday and it appeared impossible to find one in the southeast Saint Paul, MN metro area.
I called over twenty notaries within a radius of 20-30 miles and couldn't find a single notary who would meet us on a Sunday to notarize an important document. Most of them didn't even answer the phone or return a message. A few were pretty short with me on the phone. Meanwhile, we were watching a transaction slip away.
I started out searching in Dakota County and expanded my search. Still no luck. And then I found a Notary Public in Cottage Grove, Minnesota who actually took my call and explained to me that they perform Notary duties 24/7. I drove to a residential address and found Bail Agent Rene Graham (with Goldberg Bail Bonds) pushing a lawnmower around the front yard of her home. She greeted us and we completed the Notary process in under five minutes.
Here's what I learned from Rene. She told us "I don't meet a lot of folks who are simply looking for a notary". Nearly all of her business comes from people who get pulled over for moving violations serious enough that they need to post bail (such as a DUI). On a weekend or a holiday, these drivers don't want to spend their time in jail. The bail bond company gets bail posted so they can get on their way again.
Nearby Hastings, Minnesota is the county seat for Dakota County. Rene's bail bonding office is conveniently located to serve people who find themselves needing a Notary in a hurry!
The bottom line is, you can likely find a nearby Notary Public at a bail bonding company. Most of them are open 24/7 and they can get the job done when you're in a jam.
