Harvesting Your Blog Posts
I heard an excellent talk recently regarding the process of going back and reviewing your journal entries. The speaker called this, "Harvesting Your Journal". As I listened to him, he pointed out several reasons it is a good practice in going back to read earlier entries.
The purposes of taking the time to review and re-visit your journal or in this case, our blog posts, are many. Take a look at a few of the reasons for harvesting:
- 1. Taking time to review past entries and posts allows us to see where we've been and are can do some assessment of where we want to go in the future.
- 2. Reviewing earlier blog posts can provide us with a great evaluation tool for how we are doing and if we need any tweaking or improvements on our posts.
3. Reflection is an excellent exercise to take the time to enjoy the great moments while facing those things that were difficult. We can only move forward when we reflect for a moment on the past. The important thing is to reflect, then move on.
4. Finally, we are able to assess our blog posts and decide if we need to re-write popular posts, determine which posts are getting the most traction and likewise, which posts appear to be performing poorly.
Here in the ActiveRain format, it is easy to pull up our old blog posts and review them. I have found in reviewing my oldest posts, I can see I have come a long way in the blogging world. Take a moment to harvest your blog posts and see if you learn a little nugget or two along the way.
