Blogging, Prospecting and Kung Fu Panda

I had a chance to see the new Dreamworks animation film "Kung Fu Panda" over the weekend and found myself learning some important lessons from Po, an martial arts expert wanna be voiced by Jack Black. Without giving too much of the plot away for those of you yet to see it let me just say some of the things Po learns on his journey to his destiny resonated with me.

Rather than choose one of the 5 expert warriors already trained and ready, the wise old sea turlte chooses Po as the very unlikely Dragon Warrior. The mission of the Dragon Warrior is to stop some bad guy who legend tells is destined to destroy the peaceful lifestyle of their valley. Given the measure of Pos' strength (none) and shape of his physique (rotund!) this task seems impossible.

Po throws himself into his training and gets very frustrated as he sees how much he has to learn-being a Dragon Warrior seems a lot harder than it looks. He realizes, however, it is only when he learns to relax and rely on his strengths and what makes him unique that he begins to exceed the expectations he had for himself. When he is finally able to read the fabled Dragon Scroll he sees that the parchment is blank. There is no special message and he sees only his reflection.

I may be reading a bit much into a kids movie but what this says to me is that when I think too much about some of my real estate tasks (blogging, prospecting etc) and look for the "secret" that will make them work for me I get off track and frustrated at what I don't know and what I am not good at instead of focusing on what I do know and what I am good at (or trying to get better at). It was a nice gentle reminder for me and, as Po would say, "Skidoosh"!
