My Maui newsletter got changed up with videos!
I do an email newsletter, and it started a long time ago when I first got into this real estate business, back in 2000 - that seems like ages ago now. My newsletters then were very simple emails reporting on the new listings that were featured on the Realtor Caravans. Just plain text, with no pictures or even links, in the hopes that every email would get through. I have posted them as blog posts here on Activerain (see sample post).
After a while people started replying that they'd like to see pictures of the homes, or some kind of interesting graphics, so I did that, gradually adding links and small pictures with the email newsletters.
I soon realized that the weekly newsletter was a lot of commitment and work and it gradually became a once a month task. Over the years that also became a burden when things got really busy and it devolved into a newsletter every other month, but loaded with lots of information gleaned over the 2 month period. I started using Mailchimp which made it easier to add interesting content, and also track the recipients. Even though it was less frequent, there was still an awful lot of work involved to make it seem worthy of waiting so long for. Thankfully, by writing a blog I was providing myself with lots of content which could be used in the updates. See a sample of the old Mailchimp newsletters here.
The newsletters went out, year after year, rain or shine, with the odd exception for the holidays. Subscribers would come and go and many have dropped off the list as their emails became defunct.
About a year ago one of our title company reps sat down with me and showed me a simple way to improve my newsletters, and suggested adding a short video each time, and making it twice a month. I agreed, and we came up with an easy format to use. Once a month the newsletter is all about the statistics of Maui real estate, and in the middle of the month the newsletter is about Maui lifestyle. It's a simple formula, and I've been sticking to it now for over a year. I am getting more comfortable about being in the short clips. For the lifestyle video I usually put together a short 1-minute movie.
I guess it must be working since just the other day a client (buyer who is now ready to sell) told me she appreciates that I kept in touch all those years.
