As the senior member of our team, I've weathered all the cycles during my real estate career. I opened my office (Winhold Realty) when the interest rate was over 18%. I was confident in the belief that if we got our feet wet and established our presence, we would be well known and respected in our local market, which is and was Metuchen, NJ. Thankfully, the interest rate a year or 2 later started going down and when it hit 10%, buyers thought it was a gift from above. We couldn't list houses fast enough and had multiple offers on every property. Sound familiar? That was in the 80s and I know some of you have seen it happen again many years later.
As the broker/owner, I trained my agents to keep up with real estate trends, not just locally and practice what they have learned daily. Agents know what they need to do to be successful. Any shortcuts some try to take usually means a short and unsuccessful real estate career. Knowledge is important but honesty is #1. If you always tell the truth, even if it's painful to our clients, you will never have to remember what you said.
Now, after selling my company I am no longer a broker/owner and I am practicing what I preached all those years ago and have added a bright, new agent to my Team. I am confident that with Sean Callinan we will be able to reach the younger, first time buyers and help them in their purchases and sales for years to come.
