Awesome Day 4 - I Love My Cowboy Boots

By

Fifteen years ago or so we used to go to Santa Fe every year for the 4th of July and stay at Bishop's Lodge while my husband attended a professional meeting of anti trust lawyers.  I got to do the spouse routine and go to cooking classes and spa treatments.  Every annual trip included a visit to the Santa Fe Opera for a spectacular evening under the stars with amazing music and a few museums like the Georgia O'Keefe museum.

Besides visiting the wonderful restaurants like  Geronimo's or the Pink Adobe, we found a great store called Back at the Ranch.  They have the most amazing - or even - awesome - cowboy boots.  I bought my first pair that was black with colored flowers.  Then I bought a pair of brown and white boots and they were followed by a pair of black and white boots.  Still I eyed a pair of boots that celebrated New Mexico.  Apparently, the governor of New Mexioc and former Secretary of Energy - Bill Richardson - had a pair.  After two years of admiring them, I decided that I needed them.  I had to decide whether I really was "entitled" to them since I don't live in New Mexico and I am not from there.  Still - I worked for Bill Richardson when he was at the Department of Energy so I kind of had a connection to New Mexico.  Most important -  I wanted those boots.  I bought them. Once they arrived, I doubted my judgment in buying them.

Fast forward ten years - and I still have them - and I still love them.  It reminds me of wonderful trips to Santa Fe - and New Mexico - and all the things I still want to do there - like go to the Albuquerque balloon festival. Life is long - I am still planning a trip to Albuquerque some September!

I think that everyone needs a few things that are very special and provide that special lift - just because!  These boots have the New Mexico flag, balloons celebrating the festival in Albuquerque, road runners, chili peppers, turquoise and Indian bowls. Everything about the boots celebrates a great state!

My boots are a great conversation starter when I meet new clients and a constant joy for me.  Isn't that what special things should be?  I've decided that my judgment in buying the boots ten years ago was actually a good idea - because I love these boots and they make me happy!

Good morning Lise. I can not tell you how much I love this post and the boots. When I was in Egypt recently I bought a silk rug I didn't need or really have a place for. It cost more than my first new car. I finally re-arranged my home enough to hang it on a wall in a room I essentially live in. It brings me so much joy. It is nice to treat ourselves just because if we can. Wonderful post and I hope it is featured.

My daughter HATES my taste in clothes.  I'm often bright and very often bold and always try to be different.  I got that from my dad of all places.  I love your unique conversation starter boots.

Hi Lise... I'm not much of boot person... of any kind of boot. But these look wonderful and I can see why you love them. I have things I've brought back from trips that always bring back good memories... just not boots!

Nina Hollander trips and the things we bring back. I also have a small Trojan horse that I brought back from Troy - that is very special because i loved getting there and being able to stand on the hill and look at the sea where the Greeks were hiding behind an island

All that matters is that they make you happy!

My parents lived in Albuquerque for many years, and I've visited Sante Fe several times. I don't remember ever visiting the store you mentioned, but I loved the olde town square and was there quite a few times. Taos was fun too.

Thanks for sharing! You brought back memories for me.

Lise those are very unusual, and even thought they celebrate New Mexico, they fit right in with the San Francisco crowd

Lise they are indeed a good conversation starter! I love boots, but I have foot problems that prevent me from wearing them! I'm envious.

I've only been once, and we loved it. Definitely want to make a trip back some day.

There are once in a lifetime purchases that bring back the best memories. My purchase was a flowy shirt in Albequerque in 2018. This was where I jumped on a plane to fly home after the last trip with my dying mother. At the time, I didn't know she'd be gone in less than six months. Those last few days on our trip was special and I will always think of her when I wear my New Mexican shirt.
