Awesome Day 4 - I Love My Cowboy Boots
I have to say that those are some great looking cowboy boots and I can definitely picture Lise Howe singing and dancing around in them!
Fifteen years ago or so we used to go to Santa Fe every year for the 4th of July and stay at Bishop's Lodge while my husband attended a professional meeting of anti trust lawyers. I got to do the spouse routine and go to cooking classes and spa treatments. Every annual trip included a visit to the Santa Fe Opera for a spectacular evening under the stars with amazing music and a few museums like the Georgia O'Keefe museum.
Besides visiting the wonderful restaurants like Geronimo's or the Pink Adobe, we found a great store called Back at the Ranch. They have the most amazing - or even - awesome - cowboy boots. I bought my first pair that was black with colored flowers. Then I bought a pair of brown and white boots and they were followed by a pair of black and white boots. Still I eyed a pair of boots that celebrated New Mexico. Apparently, the governor of New Mexioc and former Secretary of Energy - Bill Richardson - had a pair. After two years of admiring them, I decided that I needed them. I had to decide whether I really was "entitled" to them since I don't live in New Mexico and I am not from there. Still - I worked for Bill Richardson when he was at the Department of Energy so I kind of had a connection to New Mexico. Most important - I wanted those boots. I bought them. Once they arrived, I doubted my judgment in buying them.
Fast forward ten years - and I still have them - and I still love them. It reminds me of wonderful trips to Santa Fe - and New Mexico - and all the things I still want to do there - like go to the Albuquerque balloon festival. Life is long - I am still planning a trip to Albuquerque some September!
I think that everyone needs a few things that are very special and provide that special lift - just because! These boots have the New Mexico flag, balloons celebrating the festival in Albuquerque, road runners, chili peppers, turquoise and Indian bowls. Everything about the boots celebrates a great state!
My boots are a great conversation starter when I meet new clients and a constant joy for me. Isn't that what special things should be? I've decided that my judgment in buying the boots ten years ago was actually a good idea - because I love these boots and they make me happy!
