We are now well into the month of January, in fact, the end is in sight. Our colleague Endre Barth has challenged us to share what changes we have made in the last couple of years that have worked. If you haven't read his post, "What Changes Did You Make Last Year or the Year Before That Worked?"
In 2018 I became more focused on setting face-to-face meetings with past clients, my sphere, other business owners, etc. The format of these one-on-ones varies - we might take an early morning hike together, have breakfast, coffee, lunch, or attend an evening event. I learned I really enjoyed this focus, enjoyed the time I spent with others. It has resulted in business referrals too, and keeps me top of mind. When I do my quarterly business planning, I set monthly numbers to meet, which varies depending on what else is going on. Most typically I plan 4/month, and generally exceed that. This practice continues today.
In 2019 I began to track on a daily basis what I call my "Triple Play," a term from Richard Robbins of RRI, my favorite coaching program. In brief, this consists of setting 3 ways to reach out to people to generate business. Most often I pick 1) video messages, 2) emails, 3) phone calls/texts. Again, quarterly I calendar which days I will do this, and then track it daily. There is pressure on me to stay consistent, to get it done, but it's very satisfying to give myself a star each day. Am I perfect? No, but only miss a day every month or so without making it up. That's a much better record than before I began to track.
These two practices are now a part of me and I'll not stop any time soon. What new changes will I incorporate in 2020? I'm excited to find out!
