About a year ago, a reporter from the local paper called me to ask my opinion about the real estate market in the Porter Square area, which is one stop away on the subway from Harvard Square, the priciest location in Cambridge. Wow, I say to myself, what an easy way to get your name out into the community! I live between Harvard and Porter Sq so I'm somewhat of an expert. We proceed to have a nice, long talk. I open up the paper a couple days later to read the article and the words "off the beaten path" referring to the square in question jump out at me. The quote was totally out of context, and nothing else from our conversation was reported (which I think is a blessing at this point). Of course, I hoped no one else had bought the paper (or read it on-line). It haunts me to this day when I drive through Porter Sq.
I'm still in real estate, and the reporter still is out there looking for another nugget that moves "his" story forward. Agent Beware!
