Searcy Senior Class 1959 play Historic photo

A page from the past!  1959 Seniors.

This is a fun old picture that has been tucked away for a long time.  This group of Searcy Seniors was to present a play on May 1 1959 at the Searcy High School auditorium.  I know several of them now but did not know them then because I did not grow up in Searcy.  I must say that the ones that I know now have not changed much.  They are still handsome folks!

I wonder, after seeing this picture, whether it was a tradition for the seniors to perform a play at the end of the year.  Perhaps some of the ones in this picture can tell us.  The newspaper did not tell us the name of the play either!

Ah, those folks would be my age in today's world!  I was a senior in 1959.

Morning Barbara.

I was 10 in 1959, I do remember the clothes of that era. Interesting.

Hello Barbara - just thinking:  maybe there was a class play presented in May because they were working on it during the entire school year.  Hmm...was there no other performances at other times?  Wondering again.

Myrl, don't tell your age.  You look much younger!  Of course, people DO lie about their age, don't they?

James, surely at the age of 10 you didn't notice clothing!  You'd be barely out of Buster Brown outfits.  Do they still make Buster Brown?

Michael, more comments are made on facebook.  Are we friends so you can see them?  They may explain it there.

Barbara, that was 5 years after I left Searcy so don't know any of the cast.

I do remember quite well my class of 1954 senior play "You Can't Take It With You". In fact most of the cast had a reunion in 2001 when the Little Rock Repertory Theater presented the play. We were invited to come to the play and Anita Fuller's daughter, Karen, was a anchor at KATV  Station and she arranged for the film crew to cover the reunion event. Here are some pics from the event.

I was Mr DePina a assistance to the professor. There was one scene where I wore only a green tunic as I posed for the professor to sculpt me as a Greek citizen.

Alas, pictures in those days were few and far between. There isn't even a shot of the play in the yearbook.

All I can offer you is a note from an admirer from my yearbook.

You will need to use your imagination.

This is Beverly. She was a junior.

As you know, I had eyes on Paula Anne.

I suspect, Don, that you eyed several girls in addition to Paula Anne!!  Beverly is pretty.
