Each Spring, beginning in Februray, I have been working with entrepreneurs in Westchester County to help them take their business to the next level.  The program was originally called The Acadamy for Entrepreneurial Excellence. 

Later on the Workforce Investment Board for Westchester/Putnam provided money for the program with the purpose of providing more jobs.  In essence, the business grows and then has to take on more people.  The employment picture just like the real estate picture has changed since 2009.  While we don't want to refer to people as "thin inventory" this is essentially what is happening especially in Westchester County, NY.

While the program focuses on the whole entrepreneur and every area of the business I find that their biggest problems are now recruitment and retention.  We spend much time on the EVP (Employee Value Proposition) as well as located required talent.  Communication is important and I have been asked to kick off each year's program on DISC assessment and preferred communication styles.

We just had our coaching and teaching team meeting and are ready to kick it off on February 13th.

When the inventory of quality people becomes thin some businesses will hire less quality people and that usually hurts the business more than it helps.

Grant with the unemployment rate being so low recruiting people is becoming very tough.  I guess this is the price of a booming economy.

James - business is very strong now and that is what happens.

Nina - yes, you nailed it.  That is the case.

Barbara - it is taking longer now and employers must reach out to many more sources.

Brian - yes, that is correct and that is a big problem.

Wayne - there is not right or wrong with DISC.  It is used more for communication and leadership than selection.

Ron and Alexandra A - workforce readiness is a very important role in this.  That is training people for jobs.

George - it is a price but it helps us focus on retention as well as selection.

Hi Grant, you are hitting the ground running in 2020. I actually think the DISC assessment and the preferred communication style is very important in terms of long-term employment fits for people.

Grant, even in Denver we have very low unemployment, and difficult for employers to locate a good employee.

Michael - maintaining the hiring standards is important not taking short cuts.

Joan - oh yes, Denver is another area, in fact, the majority of areas.

Kathy - that is what happens when you have 3.5 rate.  Economists call it full employment.

Recruitment and retention of excellent talent is an ongoing need for entrepreneurs.  The new challenge thrown into the mix with the evolved ability to 'farm out' needful skills for some positrons,  to those literally across the globe, it is invaluable to understand the DISC assessment and to refine ones skill set to the point of rising above the other possibilities of consideration.
