For those of us who live long enough there are/will be several major changes in life. 2019 brought about one of those changes in my life and it affected all aspects of my being.

I wouldn't say hitting the age of 65 in it self is a major change but I coupled the year of my 65th birthday along with my full retirement from Real Estate and decided on a semi- retirement career as a Notary Public who closes loans taken out over the intranet.

I have been qualified to do this for about 16 years now and had done a lot of it until I became the Owner/Broker of my own Real Estate firm. At that time my income was about 50/50 from each career but I felt I should focus on the Real Estate end of things so I could be more available to my employees and my agents.

The transition, for the most part, has been smooth. Endre Barath, Jr.  asked, as a January challange, what changes have I made that worked and further more what do I do year after year that works (and a litany of other questions). I have no intention to write a book at this time although I could just on this topic alone. I do however wish to address the question of what do I do year after year that has made me successful in my business ventures.

#1) I am out of bed before 6:00 AM EVERY day of the week.

#2) I meet clients and prospects face to face. I believe in "pressing the flesh". I don't fear colds and viruses but I do keep hand sanitizer handy. I don't do door to door cold calling but I'm pretty aggressive at introducing myself to strangers.

#3) I try hard to live by The Golden Rule. The Golden Rule covers so many aspects of life that I could not cover all of them in this post but here is one aspect that I have over come that has benefited me greatly. I challenge my prejudices! We all have them, especially snap judgments of other people. When you walk down the street are there people you avoid eye contact with because you really don't want to notice them or be noticed by them? That is the kind of prejudice I have over come. For me the challenge was not race or ethnicity... it was the poor/homeless and I also had a attitude of disgust towards fat people... both have been overcome.

Having always done items #1 and #2 year after year has always brought me success but adding #3 and working hard at it has brought me Great success separating me from many others in any field of business I've been involved in.

Me too Lise Howe , it happens so fast! It seemed to take forever to get to 18 but once we do it's like riding a rocket into time.

LOL Endre Barath, Jr. that trip to the bathroom is at 3:00 for me . Maybe if I go back and fix a few errors in my post the AR powers that be will take a second look.

Thank you for those kind words James Dray . I just corrected a couple of mistakes and now if I add another picture or two maybe AR will look at it again.

Michael Jacobs , as far as being good, I have a lot of catching up to do for all the damage I did in my youth. I do take comfort however in the scripture that says a man should not dispise his youth and I also know that the way to heaven is not through deeds but by faith.

Anything GOOD that is Will Hamm .  I've learned that if I take what comes my way with a positive attitude it makes life much better.

Hi Bob- I have to echo what Lise Howe , you are still a young man. We are all a work in progress, aren't we, even at our ages. I too still get up early and whether I have an early appointment or not. Acknowledging our prejudices and doing something about them is a huge step.

We are all a work in progress for sure Kathy Streib .  I may still have a prejudice or two to conquer but thank god I recognize what they are.

Bob "RealMan" Timm - What a treat it was to read about your retirement status. You still have many years to do so much more and I know you will surprise a lot of people because of the knowledge you have acquired over the years. Bob... this is just the beginning of another great and exciting journey.

My wife is a notary, but no closings of real estate can occur in this state without an attorney.  Quit claim transfers can happen, but not sales with loans.

Thanks Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP . Longevity is a real hit and miss in my family lines. I hope I have many years left and look back at today as "when I was young" but I don't think the odds are in my favor.

Don Baker I often close loans for attorney States, in fact two this week, and the attorney just asks for my info and tells the client that if they have any questions to give him/her a call. The attorneys part in the closing lasts about a minute.

Hi Bob "RealMan" Timm , congratulations on your semi-retirement decision. I think you will be very busy with the Notary services, especially with the new technologies like RON, and the increased use of mobile notaies for escrow/title services.

Thank you Steffy Hristova . I think you are right about the increased use of notaries as well. In a rural state like ND mobile notaries like myself are hard to find.
