No Trophies for doing your job.

Managing Real Estate Broker with Alpine Lakes Real Estate Inc., NHRE# 02863

I guess January is award season for actors, athletes and Realtors… don’t get me wrong I love you all. But I get a bit weary from the plaques, and trophies awarded for doing the job you were hired to do. I suppose it is no different than sports, when one gets rewarded for participating. But since I manage a boutique firm that caters to our clients… and we don’t hand out accolades like candy.

steve loynd  I will have to share my success like the others but with out all the hardware. The last 12 months I closed 46 sales, at a gross dollar volume of $11,000,000 Average transaction $239,000 I am not part of a team…just little old me. While that price per sale isn’t anything like working in the big cities, we all know the small sales can be the hardest, and at the same time the most gratifying.  In closing I hope next year is even better than last, but in any case I will keep an eye on my fiduciary duty and do what is best for my clients. By the way I have been a full time licensed Realtor for 36 years…and the true reward for work well done are more clients seeking you out because of the work well done. No trees or animals were harmed in the publishing of this PR stunt.

I agree that there should be no trophies for doing your job.

I also think your marketing might well include mention of some of the things you do that you rightfully consider "your job." Why? Because there are too many agents who don't bother to do the job.

It's human nature to want to be recognized and some believe recognition like trophies or prizes are essential regardless of the industry to maintain or increase production levels.

Some agents are energized by the recognition and that usually generates greater compensation, doesn't it? So, it just depends on an agent's comfort level as to whether recognition is important enough that they strive to achieve their goals and objectives with or without trophies or prizes.

All the best to your continued success.

It sounds like a stellar year to me. Even without a trophy, you can pat yourself on the back, and smile at friendly faces as you are out and about in your town. Keep it up.

You're spot on about the "smaller" transactions typically being more complex or demanding, Steve Loynd ... so that number of successfully closed transactions is no small fete.  Congrats to you on a superb year ... and best of luck moving forward ...

Recognition and plaques and awards do not motivate me...honestly the best perk I get for being a top producer in my office is a covered parking space!!  Congrats on your success.

Kudos to you!  That is a lot of transactions for one person.  No awards needed when you take care of your clients and they continue to refer you to their friends and family.

Well done I must say Steve Loynd . Doing business in an area that the sales price is lower, doesn't matter to me. I rather get a lower commission check any day, knowing that I now have a happy customer that will refer me in the future. It's not always about money.

You can trust me for all your real estate needs!

Congrats! And yes I don't like 'trophies' either. Honestly other agents try and get me to sign up for awards and designations to make me look 'better' but I could care less...I just want to help people and do a good job like I should...and do. Great post.

46 sides is crazy busy.  I don't think I could (or would want to) do it at this stage in my career.  Good job.

The big franchises are the ones who hand out the awards. They can afford to because they charge the agents more commission. I used to be with one of the franchises.  (not anymore) I lament the death of the tree that gave me the plaques.

Thankful "No trees or animals were harmed in the publishing of this PR stunt.". LOL

We may not get trophies for doing our job but it's great to cheer each other on and support each other. Some days are not good days and some times we feel down. Friends keep us taking one small step ahead even when we don't feel like it.

Congratulations my dear, you are a winner in your own right and deserve all the awards and gratifications you can get.

These actors get awards as a way to encourage themselves of their talents. You know in the past, such crafts weren't regarded a serious stuff.

Thanks Jan... these are small numbers for most agents in big metro Areas, but it puts me in the top 5 in a county of 44 towns in our little neck of the woods.
