Is it really a test if you do not know you are being tested? Last week I met with a home owner. They were thinking of selling but not sure the best route to take. They decided to test myself and the other agents they interviewed with. They did not say what the test would be though.

 

Tuesday I got a call from them. They simply thanked me for interviewing with them and said they would be in touch. Wednesday I got a call from them late in the evening. They asked me to go over the price I thought the house would sell for. They then asked how I would market the home. Friday morning at 7:15am they called again, I answered and their first words were, "did I always answer my phone?" Of course I said yes.

 

It was kind of a crazy to call so early. They were almost stunned, so I asked if something was wrong. They told me no, "something was right." That Out of all the agents they called, more than half did not answer their phone at all. That very few answered at all. That I was the only one to answer 3 of the 3 calls they made. They then shocked me by asking me if I was ready to list their home?

 

This is a test I like. So, how was your week?

 

 

The MOST IMPORTANT message I can share is that all agents are not created equal. The choice of an agent does matter. Hire the agent that will work for you through each step of the buying or selling process. 

 

I now share with every consumer that my philosophy is simple, provide more personal and professional service to guide my clients through each step of the buying or selling process. All Agents are not created equal and every buyer or seller should take the time to hire the BEST not just the biggest. Those that hire me, find a dedication like no other.

Good for you! I can't believe so many agents let calls go to voice mail. I always try to answer if I'm not with other clients.

LOL! We're ALWAYS being tested. 

I ALWAYS answer, text or call back. It is MANDATORY for success. 

HOWEVER, these guys IMO tested how much they could control your time. 

In the immortal words of Shania Twain . . . that don't impress me much.

I have 25 active listings and it is impossible for me to be on 2 phone calls at the same time! So if a call from those guys had gone to your VM . . . would that have curb-kicked you?

Always answer the phone, it's the basics - yet, so many agents don't do it. I would hope these guys are not going to keep "testing" you to see how you'll react, or perform. Kind of odd.

Scott Godzyk - Testing doesn't end when people graduate or through with school. I'm with Candice A. Donofrio - everyday is not just another day, "We're ALWAYS being tested."

Your story reminded me of a listing I got early on in my career. I was holding an Open House. A couple came in and didn't leave. They hung around for a long time, even when others came to see the house. Years passed, and that couple that loitered contacted me, told me who there were, and the reason why they hired me. It turned out they spent every weekend going to open houses and were judging the agent by how they were treated and how they were communicating with others while they sat back and observed. I was hired to list without having to go through the process because of my previous actions.

I wonder Candice A. Donofrio. When we signed the listing docs, I did let them know if i was with another client, i would have to call them back. I also encouraged them to email questions and for updates which they have switched to. One never knows how busy they will be, it comes all at once or none at all some days

I did have this talk Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD as i do all my clients. I encouraged email for quick questions and updates. That if i was with someone else, calls go to voie mail but i return them quick as possible. They emailed within minutes of leaving thanking me, so they tested my email. I quickly replied and they sent me a smiley face

That is a nice story Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP . There is tests every day, people do it different and it is always how we reply. Just today met a friend of a client of mine at the walk through. They asked 100 questions and at the end asked if i could sell there house like i did this one. So there is always a test

Congrats Scott al agents are not created equal and you are one of those special agents that passed their test. Now get the job done on equal terms and time frames.

I continue to be amazed that in our era of technological "Gee Wizzery" that agents don't answer the phone.  I suspect the number of robo-calls, may make some reluctant to answer numbers they don't recognize.

You passed the muster...err, pop quiz, Scott! Like you, I do answer my phone - pretty much day & night - unless I'm with someone else but, I do return calls within the hour. Congrats on the WIN and the new listing!

My only concern would be that they may turn out to be very controlling sellers.
