Few know and many ignore the history we recognize today. Things are often ignored when they are uncomfortable. No Jew will ever forget the Holocaust. I grew up learning about it and think of it often. The Nazis murdered six million Jews, while millions more were tortured and lived with the consequences for the rest of their lives. Today there are deniers. They are stupid and evil people who in many ways impact us still today.
There is still Anti-Semitism. We see it all over the world and in our own country too. Today we also see the modern day incarceration of children who wait in camps without their parents because they wanted a better life here. Discrimination never abates because evil and cruel folks always need to feel superior to someone.
We need to be mindful of our past and strive always, not just on special days, to do better, to be better and to speak truth to power as it is necessary.
