Benefits of Taking Your Dog to Work

Left - Moi and Right - Mia

Moi has been our office mascot for some time now.  The exciting news is that my partner and I adopted his little sister, a 13 week female Mini-Schnauzer, and she flies in from Chicago next week.

Mia will be joining Moi as our office co-mascot once she is def pottie trained.  Here are my thoughts on great benefits on bringing your pup to work:

MAKES YOU SMILE MORE AND BOOSTS TEAM MORALE

Let's face it – having a dog around is only going to increase positive feeling. They are bursting with energy and character and will get a laugh and a smile out of most people. This leads to an increase in team morale and positive feeling in the working environment, making the hours in the office far more enjoyable.

HIGHLIGHTS WORK-BALANCE MORE EFFECTIVELY

When your pup is around, you become more aware of your work-life balance. It encourages you to take regular breaks, get outside with your favourite four-legged friend and take part in a little bit of playtime. Life isn't all about work and having dogs around will help employees see that.

PROMOTES TEAM CO-OPERATION AND COMMUNICATION

As dogs in the workplace can reduce stress and negative feeling, it's clear that team co-operation will also see a positive improvement. Dogs are also a great way for fellow humans to bond as it gives them a lovely subject to talk about on a personal level.

The campaign's website states: "Increased job satisfaction, team co-operation and morale have all been reported in employees that spend the workday with their pets."

IMPROVES PRODUCTIVITY

Not only will the day seem more fun, employees have been found to work harder and more productively when dogs are in the workplace. It's a win-win situation for everyone.

IT'S JUST PLAIN FUN!

And if all those reasons weren't enough then taking your dog to work is just plain fun. Any moment of boredom or anxiety can be resolved with a dog cuddle or a game of fetch.

What a lovely post, Kurt. I love dogs (and cats). I guess I could say I have my dog at work with me everyday (and my cat) since I work from my home office 90% of the time! It certainly boosts my morale. And a big congratulations on the new family member, Mia.

Nina Hollander Lucky You!  My home is actually 8 block from work, but I love walking back from home-work-work-home, even in this Portland rain (although sunny today).  I have so much peace in a crazy real estate work when my best friend is by my side like today (pic below).  Thanks for your comments!

My boy, Bingo, Kurt... a black and tan coonhound with a touch of beagle.

My other boy, Mr. Marlow, a Maine Coon. Usually he sits on my desk supervising me.
