How do you remove stubborn stains from carpet? This is an issue we've all had to face once or twice, but the solution is relatively simple. If you have a stain on your carpet that you need to clean out, all you have to do is to remember to work from the outside in. To do this, simply wet the area with the stain and use a clean cloth to clot the area. Remember not to scrub the area as that can make the stain worse and damage the carpet.

How Do You Remove Stubborn Stains From Carpet - What is the strongest carpet stain remover?

It is important to maintain tile flooring and carpet. Not all stains are the same and require different mixtures to effectively remove. In this article, we take a look at the major types of carpet stains and how you can get rid of them. Read on to find out more.

The Different Types Of Carpet Stains And How To Handle Them

1. Water-Soluble Stains

These stains come from things such as juices, alcoholic drinks, gravy, ice cream, milk, and more. Water-soluble stains are probably the easiest to clean as they don't require you to make a complicated concoction to get it out. That being said, you're still going to have to mix a couple of things before you get to cleaning.

The easiest way to remove these stains is to mix a quarter teaspoon of non-bleach detergent or white vinegar, depending on what you have at your disposal (both work fine). Once you have the mixture, simply wet the area and blot. After you do this a couple of times, you'll find that your carpet is as good as new.

2. Special Water-Soluble Stains

This is another major type of stain you might find on your carpet and these usually come from things such as blood, coffee, mustard, tea, or vomit. These things are a bit trickier to remove, but with a little bit of time and effort (and the right ingredients) you should have that stain off in no time.

To counter these stains, make a mixture of a tablespoon of ammonia and a cup of water. Once you have the mixture, simply clean the carpet as you would a normal stain (wetting and blotting), it's important to remember, however, not to use this mixture on wool or wool-blend carpets (use a mild detergent instead). If that mixture doesn't work, you might need something stronger. A good alternative is mixing 1 part chlorine bleach with five parts water, just remember to only use this mixture on solution-dyed carpets.

3. Other Stains

Here are a couple of stain types that require other methods:

  • Wax And Chewing Gum

To remove these stains, use ice to freeze the gum or wax and use an object such as a spoon to break it apart. After that, simply pick up the pieces and use a paper towel to blot the carpet.

  • Cigarette Burns

This is relatively easy, simply gently rub the area with a blunt knife to remove the burn.

  • Pet Stains

You can also remove pet stains with an appropriate formula and use a steam cleaner. Just remember to neutralize the stain.

  • Nail Polish

A little bit of nail polish remover on the stain and blotting will do the trick.

How To Properly Care For Your Carpet

Even if you don't have stains to deal with, it's important to maintain your carpet properly by getting it cleaned or cleaning it yourself about every year to a year and a half. All it takes is making one call to your local cleaning service, or if you want to do it yourself you can simply rent the equipment you'll need such as a steam carpet cleaner which is usually available at supermarkets.

Hopefully you now know how do you remove stubborn stains from carpet. A clean carpet is a great addition to the room and can be the perfect amount of extra comfort you'll need after a long day. If you have a tricky stain that seems impossible to remove, just remember that all it takes is the right mixture and a little bit of elbow grease to remove it. So without that out of the way, all that's left to do is get blotting!
