Today is truly an awesome day. No need to search for some glimmer of good in an otherwise miserable day. No need to cling to a single positive thought in a sea of negativity!
Instead, I'm off to see the grandbabies, the wonderful grandbabies of Oz! - No wait, the wonderful grandbabies of New York City!
We will follow the yellow brick road of I-95 through the "grumpy trees that throw apples at you" (which might be driving through any urban city!) with a stop in Baltimore to leave Arthur, our poodle, at the kennel for the weekend. It is perfect timing since he needs to get groomed and he is used to the groomer at that kennel. Hopefully, my favorite lunch place in Little Italy in Baltimore, Isabella's, will be open and we can pick up sandwiches for the road with side stops at Vaccaro's in the next block for cookies and the Casa di Pasta for a few bottles of Arrabiata sauce - one to take to my son and two for us.
Then we are on to the "poppy fields" of the New Jersey turnpike that make you want to fall asleep with boredom. We will hope for no snow this afternoon or Sunday - even though the snow that covered the poppy fields let Dorothy and her friends get through to the Emerald City.
We are going to NYC for the weekend to see my son, who lives there with his family, and my daughter who is in from the University of Cicago Business School to meet with companies in New York. Hopefully, there will be time for a trip to Central Park with the boys and lunch with my daughter, since she has already told us she will be too busy with friends and school related events most of the time to hang out with us for long - LOL. Some time in the afternoon, we will watch Hamilton at his ice skating lesson. Our daughter played ice hockey in high school - so I think our son is hoping that Hamilton will enjoy skating as much as Lise Courtney did.
Hopefully the drive home on Sunday will be pretty easy since everyone else will be tucked in to their super bowl parties! I would think about staying in NYC to watch the Super Bowl with our son and his boys but that would make it too late to get home - and we will still have to stop and pick up Arthur in Baltimore where he will be hanging out in the kennel waiting for us! Still I will find time to share my favorite super bowl recipe even if I don't actually make it this year!
