Jeremy Joseph Fry

Jeremy Joseph Fry was born in Bristol, England back in 1924. He was educated at Gordonstoun. He joined the Royal Air Force as a pilot during WWII. After the war, he became a product designer with Frenchay Products Ltd from 1954-57. In 1957, he founded Rotork Engineering Company. He died in 2005 in Tamil Nadu, India.

What you may not know about Jeremy is he was also an inventor of sorts. Some of his inventions includes the Sea Truck (a flat boat ferry capable of carrying one car at high speed), a four-wheel-drive wheelchair (that’s a first for me, never knew they were made). He was mentioned in a book by Tony Richardson Long Distance Runner (London, 1993).

Well he sure had a nack for coming up with some inventions. Is there 4 wheel drive wheelchairs on the market today?

James Dray I hope I can avoid needing a four wheel drive wheelchair BUT living in the environment I do it would come in handy if I should need one.

Hello James - it seems to me that Mr Fry was much more than an "inventor of sorts".  Thanks for telling us part of his story.

Hi James Dray,

I would certainly like to see a 4 wheel drive wheelchair.  I have seen a track chair but I am sure it is different.

Hi James- I too am intrigued with the 4 wheel drive wheelchair. That would make for some interesting wheelies.

Thank you, James, for information on another inventor - this time a British inventor.  Never heard of a four-wheel-drive wheel chair.

Hi Jame:

The 4-wheel drive wheelchair sounds pretty inpressive, and potentially very practical.

Thanks, Jeremy Joseph Fry. A four wheel drive wheel chair sounds really cool! I can just imagine one climbing a hill or traversing a cobblestone lane.
