Independence Township is located in Northern Oakland County, Michigan some 45 miles Northwest of Detroit.  We are a Charter Township 36 square miles in size, except for that portion taken for the City of the Village of Clarkston.  We are the fourth largest Township in Oakland County and have a population of approximately 32,000 residents.  Geographically we are located between exits 90 to 92 of I-75.  Welcome to Clarkston!

Our location is a popular one because of Clarkston Schools and the convenient access to all major freeways for commuting to the various metropolitan areas of Southeastern Michigan.  Our downtown is quaint with  small retail shops, antiques, and quality restaurants.
