Ari Fuji

By
Managing Real Estate Broker with Fathom Realty PB00068179

Ari Fuji was born near the United States Air Force base in Yokota, Japan. She graduated from the Toho Gakuen Girl’s High School before attending Rikkyo University where she studied law. After graduation, she moved to the United States to obtain her aviator’s license.

Returning to Japan she was hired as a trainee in 1999. She was licensed as a first officer in 2000. What you may not know about Ari is that she was the first female pilot in command and the first female flight instructor in Japan. As of 2015 she is the only woman in Japan to be a PIA (pilot in command) of a commercial aircraft.

Hi James Dray - I gathered where you were going with this and it is not surprising that Ari is the only female pilot. I remember being on Bora Bora back in 2007. It is a very popular destination for Japanese newlyweds. I observed how these young women walked behind their husbands...all the time! It was very surprising for me to see.

Japan has not been known for equality of the sexes so this is a significant achievement.

Being the first and only Pilot in Command is quite an accomplishment for Ari Fuji. She obviously set lofty goals for herself when she came to the U. S. for pilot training and returned to Japan to pursue her love for flying.
