A second set of eyes

By
Real Estate Agent with Atlanta Communities 303302

It always amazes me how someone not involved in a situation can just walk up and in seconds identify an issue and provide a workable solution. Then they saunter off leaving the group with their jaws slack, wondering how that happened. I have seen this happen many times.

Its the old, "Second set of eyes" thing. Someone not encumbered by the current thinking comes to the problem with no preconceived notions. This fresh perspective yields benefits to those stuck in a mental rut.

Why even discuss this? Well, for one, I find it an interesting phenomena, and two, I am walking into just this situation this afternoon.

I spoke to a group of agents a month or so ago, and have been asked back to talk about marketing for commercial agents. Am I in commercial? Nope. I was once, ever so briefly. But marketing is marketing. My hope is that I will be a second set of eyes for this group and be able to suggest ideas that they would not have ordinarily thought of. Either that or I will be totally useless! Wish me luck!

Hello Peter - so much value in a second set of eyes.  Those eyes may bring experience in that field or experience.  Maybe a new perspective from outside that arena.  The reasons are abundant and are a necessary part of an operation that embraces success.

Good Luck Peter den Boer !  I have experienced this many times over the years.  A group can be 'struggling' with a solution and not looking past their regular ways of doing things. In pops somebody from another business and - there it is, an excellent suggestion. It's good to have a second set of eyes on things!

coming from outside the box can bring that fresh set of eyes - while still knowing a lot about the issue - good luck

I love being around people that see things from a different angle than me.  Sometimes that is where the creativity comes from.  I am sure you brought some great ideas to those commercial agents.

Hi Peter:

Having a second set of eyes and a different perspective can often make a world of difference! Sometimes stepping away from a problem helps as well.

Peter, a second set of eyes is a great tool! The trick is listening to them. One has to be willing  to change our minds!

I had just that situation happen yesterday. Sometimes it's because they haven't been involved in the details, and sometimes, like yesterday, it's because it was a totally different type of personality who looks at things completely differently and saw it from another perspective. Hope it turned out well for you.

A second set of eyes can mean many things. After the second pair of eyes for one of my clients was the mother, I took the client aside and asked if this was beneficial for what they were looking for.  The mother had lived in her home for 25 years and had a totally different set of values than the daughter who was looking for a starter home.  The mother came to the inspection and totally got it!

Selling is selling regardless of the commodity and you can't sell someone until they are able and ready to buy. People buy or invest simply for the benefits, either now or in the future. Sometimes a second set of eyes or opinion derails the opportunity and it could be justifiable and that could prevent challenges for the buyer or seller, tax issues for example that wasn't considered with a transaction, so, it depends on the circumstances, doesn't it?
