Okay, so I know this has nothing to do with mortgages, but let's talk baseball! Specifically, Chicago baseball!
If you live in the Chicago area, the title pretty much sums up our attitude. It's Cubs fans vs. Sox fans. As the old saying goes, "My two favorite teams are the Cubs and whoever is playing the White Sox!" Lifelong friend is pitted against friend. Husband against wife. Parent against child. Does this seem over dramatic? If so, you don't live in Chicago!
Why Now?
I bring this up now, because our annual inter-league games start June 20th. A week from Friday. But wait, there's something a little different about this year. Usually, one of the teams is doing pretty well and the other is under achieving at this point in the season. This year, the Cubs have the best record in baseball and the Sox have the biggest lead in any division. Both teams are doing great and the stakes will be that much higher! See, if your a Sox fan and the Sox aren't doing well but beat the Cubs, you have bragging rights. You hear it all over the place "Hey, we may be in last place, but at least we kicked your *** this year!" It justifies your season.
Something Different This Year
Most people know that I'm a Cubs fan. Always have been, always will be. When the Cubs stink, I'm there. When they are doing well, I'm worried. I spent most of my years tolerating Sox fans and Sox teams. Honestly, I seldom gave them a second thought. When they did well, I was happy for them because they are a Chicago team. This changed a few years ago. A friend of mine, who I won't name (mikey), is a real in your face Sox fan! He's not happy unless the Cubs are losing. He was in his glory back in 2003 when the Cubs blew the National League Pennant and blamed it on a poor guy who tried to catch a foul ball! Come on, who wouldn't go for a ball coming right at them. Anyways, this friend, who I'll call Mikey (cause that's his name) got me going so much, that I started being an in your face Cubs fan. I kept looking for scoring updates to see if the Sox were losing. Engaging in the whole rhetoric of why the Sox are terrible. Etc., etc..
But this year, that's going to change. Wouldn't it be great to settle the score on the greatest platform, the World Series! I'm trying not to jinx things and I know it's early in the season, but the way both teams are playing, it could happen! This could be Chicago's year! Our Junior Senator will be the next President of the United States and the Cubs will beat the Sox in extra innings of game 7 of the World Series!
Let's Unite
I'm asking all Cub fans, let's root for the Sox (other than the 6 inter-league games) to win. Let's have them go all the way to the World Series. Sox fans, root for our Cubs. Don't you want the chance to beat us in the World Series where it really counts?
And remember, we really have something in common. We both hate New York teams!
Go Cubs! Go Sox! Any questions?
