James E. Fulton Jr., was born in Ottumwa, Iowa back in 1940. As a child, the family moved to California. He earned his bachelor’s and medical degree from Tulane University in New Orleans where he excelled as a swimmer. In 1969, James along with Dr. Kligman and Dr. Plewig released their study, The Effect of Chocolate on Acne Vulgaris. The study revealed that chocolate did not contribute to acne.

James and his wife Sara started the Vivant Skin Care business in 1990 in California. The company moved to South Florida in 2000. Dr. Fulton died of colon cancer in 2013, he was 73.

What you may not know about Dr. Fulton is that he was a co-inventor of Retin-A, a popular acne medication in 1969. He was a pioneer for new procedures and treatments in dermatology.

What you may not know about Dr. James E. Fulton Jr., is that Retin-A is also used for acute promyelocytic leukemia. Go figure that one out.

James Dray good morning, James... I've long known without the help of James Fulton that chocolate did not cause acne... the Mars Corporation, for which I worked, was doing studies on this for decades. That being said... I'm a big fan of retin and use retin based products to ward off skin aging.
