Ski Resorts in Colorado are Getting Hit Hard

Colorado is getting SNOW --- LOTS of it!    Skiers are so excited for all the powder, as some resorts have had 3-4 FEET of snow.  BUT, getting to the resorts is an issue.    There have been stories of HOURS on the highway, and not getting to ski.

Once you get there, some runs aren't open due to avalanche warnings, so the lift lines are extreme!    In Vail, there was a 75-minute wait in line to get on the lift.

In Denver we have seen almost a foot, and snowing again today, and more expected on Wednesday.   When is Spring - can't wait!

Hi Joan... just as it's "bad" when there isn't enough snow, it's can be "bad" when there's too much. Not being a skier, a 75 minute wait to get on a lift seems a bit much to me... then again, I'm not patient when it comes to queuing up in any event... including restaurant and do eat! :) Meantime, stay safe and warm in Denver. It's on the cool side here today, but sunny... and we expect yet more rain this week.

Nina Hollander it can go either way when you talk about snow.  I am sure Carol is saying, just stop already!    I was a skier for years, and 75 minutes in line is more than I would wait, especially with the lift tickets being pricey now.   Rain sounds nice....

I've been hearing about the Colorado snow storms, Joan. Back in the day of slow, 2-person ski lifts I've waited in line at Heavenly Valley for close to 2 hours; very rare today with speedy quads and more. Just goes to show how fabulous Vail is!

Same in Washington State at this time with so much snow at the resorts but limited ways to get there. We have wet snow not that wonderful powder you enjoy...

I have never been skiing and being that I am not very fond of cold weather I don't feel like I am missing out on anything, haha.

Lottie, with those 2-seaters, you are right, they were awfully slow.

Paul, the resorts have been talking about all the powder, but difficult to get there.

Brian England dressing properly for the weather is key, and you won't notice.  Or maybe YOU would....  :-)

We went skiing several years ago in West Virginia and we got so much snow that they closed the ski resort down! It was kind of fun being snowed in at the resort though.

Hi Joan Cox ,

Thanks for sharing this info.  If I'm in Colorado I think I'll be throwing snowballs.

What a rough time of it!  I guess cross country skiing would be a good option just to get some exercise.

Cara, ski resorts rely on a good snow year, but too much can be detrimental.

Georgie, that is a good idea, and you wouldn't have to worry about avalanches.
