Lost And Found

Lost And Found   As I have previously shared here I worked in the corporate department store industry prior to real estate.  While my time there was not entirely based at the store level, I was familiar enough with the various areas that I could provide locations when customers asked questions or directions.  It even happens years...err decades after leaving that industry that I can direct people to the likely spot they requested.  It must be that "look" of being in "the know".

Although retail has changed much and some departments may no longer exist, I was recently thinking of one such area.  The Lost and Found Department.  Lost items, of course, is one commonly known to many.   Perhaps lost opportunities.  Found "love" or some other moment of serendipity not likely discovered in a fitting room or left on a counter near the cash register.  A quick Internet search of lost and found sees me encountering bible verses, a preponderance of love quotes and references along with notices of bus/train information or missing pets.

It seems the impact of a lost and found search extends pretty far.  Distance and transportation mode as well as reaching out to our furry friends.  Even a couple of movies are "found"(it looks as if I didn't miss anything by not knowing of their existence from the capsule synopsis I saw of each).

Some things are best when never found.    Off again, on a pondering path...

Sheri Sperry - MCNE® - being without connection by choice is one thing but when it happens by accident or other circumstances, it's not so nice.  Glad you realized where it was and that it was found in good hands.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel - I don't recall being aware that your Father had survived a stroke and can understand your Mother's reaction.

Sharon Tara - too many chiefs for that one roaming Indian?

Sharon Lee - that reminds me of a play I saw based on missing socks who "find" each other.  Obviously experimental theater.

Hi Michael:

I've had a few experiences with Lost and Found Departments, some good some not so good. Sometimes I wish I had a Lost and Found Department at my house...but then some things may be better lost and not found.

Jeff

Jeff Dowler, CRS - you may wish for a personal lost and found department at your house but I am thinking I might benefit if one could be established in my memory...  Of course, discard/delete would be at my request or possibly at my whim.

Morning Michael.

Thankfully, I have lost some items, never to return.  On the other hand, I've lost some items, that I would love to have found

Michael Jacobs - on the topic of "Lost & Found." That could be a title for a book. Do you ever find the missing sock after the laundry goes through the dryer? Isn't it funny how you can be positive you lost something as valuable as money; then find it years later in a pocket or somewhere else where you really put it? I remember how stressed out my mother was two years before she died because she found the jewelry exactly where she put it many years earlier but thought it was stolen.

James Dray - I imagine that's true for most, if not all, of us.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP - losing things can definitely be stresful and it when those "things" are found, emotions of many kinds can be revealed.  Relief perhaps or maybe "what was the big deal?".

Michael Jacobs - Isn't that the truth! Oh what a "relief" it is to find what you were missing. After all, material things don't have to be fed, bathed, or exercised. They just lay there until you or somoene else finds them!

Michael, it is frightening to discover you have left something of value!   I remember talking on the phone, and leaving my purse in the buggy at the grocery store.  Someone turned it in, and never touched anything inside.   I was lucky.  Now I never take my purse in.

Joan Cox - I am a bit amazed when I see a handbag(sometimes open) in the grocery cart at the market.  I think the situation you described was one that was quite fortunate.

I hear somebody once made a website for lost mittens, so they could be paired up again.

I once lost a valuable ring in a parking lot at a ski area on Mt. Hood - didn't discover it was lost until we were back home. The lot was covered in snow too. What is quite remarkable is that we went back the next day and found it.  Perhaps it was serendipity at work.

It's always so fun to put on a coat for the first time in months and find money in the pocket!  It's as if it's a gift, instead of misplaced/forgotten money.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD - Amazing story about finding that ring in the snow-covered lot.  Definitely serendipity or Something else at wotk(or play).

You're right about "finding" $$$$ that was misplaced/forgotten - it does feel more like a gift than something that was "lost".  Perspective?  Positive attitude?
